Wilco and The Low Anthem have made the shortlist of nominees for the Uncut Music Award and are now two of just eight artists up for what Uncut has dubbed the year's "most inspiring and rewarding musical experience." The music video for The Low Anthem's "Charlie Darwin" can now be seen here at Nonesuch.com. Stereogum described it as an "affecting visual counterpart to Ben Knox Miller's fragile falsetto."

Uncut magazine has just announced that Wilco and The Low Anthem have made the shortlist of nominees for the Uncut Music Award. Named to the longlist of 25 nominees late last month for their most recent Nonesuch releases, Wilco (the album) and Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, respectively, the bands are now two of just eight artists up for what Uncut has dubbed the "most inspiring and rewarding musical experience" of the year. Also on the shortlist are Animal Collective, Bob Dylan, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear, Kings of Leon, and Tinariwen.

"If there’s one thing at this stage that I think the judges can agree on," says Uncut's editor Allan Jones, "it’s that 2009 was another brilliant year for music, which of course just makes our job that much harder."

A panel of judges—including Jones; Robin Pecknold of last year's winner, Fleet Foxes; previous Wilco collaborator Billy Bragg; and a number of other musicians and music industry professionals—select a winner to be revealed in January 2010 issue of Uncut, on sale November 24.

Wilco begins its European tour on Uncut's home territory, the UK, next week in Leeds. The Low Anthem's tour with Blind Pilot continues tomorrow night at the Houston House of Blues. For more information on both tours, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
