Celebrate Brooklyn!—one of New York City's longest running, free, outdoor performing arts festivals—has announced the complete line-up for this summer's concert series in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Among the featured performers this year are several artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Lake Street Dive, Conor Oberst, Fleet Foxes, Sam Amidon, Amadou & Mariam, and Youssou N'Dour.

Rhiannon Giddens will tour the UK and Ireland this autumn, bringing music from her new album, Freedom Highway, to London, Bristol, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Pocklington, Manchester, Dublin, Glasgow, and Gateshead.

Rhiannon Giddens begins an extensive US tour, with music from her new album, Freedom Highway, at the Stagecoach festival in California on Friday. She takes the tour across the Southwest, down to New Orleans and Atlanta, up to her home state of North Carolina and to DC, Boston, Philadelphia, and NYC's Lincoln Center. The tour resumes in June and continues through the summer, with headlining shows across the South and Midwest and festivals like Spoleto, Newport Folk, Newport Jazz, and ROMP.

Devendra Banhart has announced a tour of South America in the fall, featuring music from his latest album, Ape in Pink Marble, and more. The 10-city tour begins with a performance at CC Barranco in Lima, Peru, on September 1, followed by a concert in Santiago, Chile, seven shows in Brazil, and a final stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tickets are on sale now.

Nonesuch releases The Natalie Merchant Collection—a deluxe ten-CD box set compiled by Merchant—on July 14, 2017. It's ten discs, including all eight of her solo studio albums from the past three decades; Butterfly, a new studio set featuring new songs and reinterpreted selections from her catalog, arranged for string quartet; and Rarities, a collection of rare and previously unreleased tracks. The package includes a 100-page lyric book and pictorial history of her solo career. Pre-orders include an instant download of the new recording of "Frozen Charlotte" from the Butterfly disc and an exclusive, limited-edition print autographed by Merchant.

Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer were on NPR's Here and Now, discussing and performing from their new album, Bach Trios. "What happens when you put a world-renowned cellist, a MacArthur fellow bassist, and another MacArthur winner and mandolin player together?" asks host Meghna Chakrabarti. Congratulations to drummer Antonio Sánchez and trumpeter Cuong Vu, who have won ECHO Jazz 2017 Awards for their performances on two 2016 Nonesuch albums with guitarist Pat Metheny: Antonio Sánchez, International Drums Instrumentalist of the Year for The Unity Sessions, with the Pat Metheny Unity Group; and Cuong Vu, International Brass Instrumentalist of the Year for Cuong Vu Trio Meets Pat Metheny. The ECHO Jazz Awards ceremony will take place at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg, televised on NDR, on June 1, 2017.

Devendra Banhart, whose new album, Ape in Pink Marble, was released in the fall, recently took director Barbara Anastacio on a tour of his home in Los Angeles for the Nowness series My Place. "I haven't figured out how to make it a place that feels inviting and cozy, I think, to have even people over," Banhart says of his home. "Even though my idea of a good party, no one's home. I mean, I'm not even there. Like, if I'm not here, and there's no one here, it's a pretty good party." You can watch it here.

Polish composer Henryk Górecki's Symphony No. 3, Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, was released on Nonesuch Records 25 years ago today, April 24, 1992. Górecki had composed the piece in 1976, but it didn't appear on disc until then. The recording of the emotionally affecting piece, featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw and the London Sinfonietta led by conductor David Zinman, proved spellbinding to a diverse international audience, becoming the highest-selling album ever by a contemporary composer. "Perhaps people find something they need in this piece of music," Górecki speculated. "Somehow I hit the right note, something they were missing."

Wilco made its Nonesuch Records debut with the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot fifteen years ago today, on April 23, 2002. On the album, Wilco delivers a thrillingly experimental work that scored a perfect 10 on Pitchfork, which hailed the album "simply a masterpiece." The New York Times said that "songs about love, America, apocalypse, and self-invention unfold in richly enigmatic arrangements" on the album. Rolling Stone named Yankee Hotel Foxtrot the No. 3 Album of the 2000s.

Bach Trios, an album of Bach works recorded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, mandolinist Chris Thile, and bassist Edgar Meyer, is now available in a two-LP vinyl edition, following its recent release on CD and digitally. The Times (UK) calls it "irresistible." The Observer says the musicians are "in perfect harmony." Herald Scotland exclaims: "A new classic ...Truly, virtuosity is its own reward." The trio begins a nine-city US tour at Boston's Symphony Hall tonight.
