Richard Linklater's film Boyhood has landed on a number of lists of Best Movies of 2014, including all three New York Times film critics: A.O. Scott—"In my 15 years of professional movie reviewing, I can’t think of any film that has affected me the way Boyhood did"—and Stephen Holden, who both place the film in the No. 1 spot on their lists, and Manohla Dargis, whose list is alphabetical. The film is also No. 1 on the year's best lists from New York magazine, Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, and Indiewire.

John Adams's album City Noir has made NPR's list of the Ten Best Classical Albums of 2014. "[T]here was such a bounty of phenomenal albums released this year that the selection process was a joy," writes NPR's Anastasia Tsioulcas. She calls saxophonist Timothy McAllister "outstanding" and says "the performances by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, led by David Robertson, are invigorating and top-notch." The New York Times's Anthony Tommasini includes The Met's production of Adams's The Death of Klinghoffer among the Ten Best Classical Music Events of 2014, calling it "a searing yet ruminative work."

Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Inherent Vice, is due out this coming Monday on Nonesuch Records (with the vinyl to follow March 3). Before then, and before the film opens in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles this Friday, have a listen to the track "Spooks," an unreleased Radiohead-penned tune performed by Greenwood with Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey of Supergrass and a voiceover by Joanna Newsom. Boyhood has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards: Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Director and Best Screenplay for Richard Linklater; Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette; and Best Supporting Actor for Ethan Hawke. Joaquin Phoenix is up for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, for Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, and Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye's song "Mercy Is," from Darren Aronofsky's Noah, is up for Best Original Song. All three films' soundtracks are on Nonesuch Records.

NPR Music has announced its Favorite Songs of 2014, including songs from four Nonesuch releases: The Black Keys' "Weight of Love," from their new album, Turn Blue; Robert Plant's "Little Maggie," from his Nonesuch debut album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar; Conor Oberst's "Hundreds of Ways," from his Nonesuch debut, Upside Down Mountain; and James Farm's "Two Steps," from their sophomore album, City Folk.

Olivia Chaney, whose Nonesuch Records debut album is due in 2015, will welcome in the new year with a two-week tour of Australia, starting at the Woodford Folk Festival in Brisbane on New Year's Eve and including shows in Melbourne and Perth and two sets as part of the Sydney Festival. Click for details and tickets.

Pianist Tigran Hamasyan's Nonesuch Records debut album, Mockroot, is due out February 17. But you don't need to wait till then to hear music from the new album: two songs, "Entertain Me" and "The Apple Orchard in Saghmosavanq," are now streaming here. The tracks are available to download with pre-orders of the album at iTunes and in the Nonesuch Store. Mockroot features Hamasyan on piano, voice, keyboards, synths and sound effects, Sam Minaie on electric bass, and Arthur Hnatek on drums and live electronics. The album comprises new tracks written by Hamasyan, as well as his arrangements of traditional Armenian songs.

Boyhood has won the LA Film Critics Award for Best Picture, Best Director for Richard Linklater, Best Actress for Patricia Arquette, and Best Editing for Sandra Adair; Jonny Greenwood's score for Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice was named Best Music Score. Boston Society of Film Critics also named Boyhood Best Picture, Best Director for Linklater, Best Editor for Adair, and Best Ensemble Cast, and awarded Inherent Vice for Best Use of Music in a Film. The New York Film Critics Online named Boyhood Best Picture, Best Director for Linklater, and Best Supporting Actress for Arquette.

Robert Plant's new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, has been named among NPR Music's 50 Favorite Albums of 2014. "These 50 albums helped define 2014 for us," says NPR. "They are how we'll remember the year. They're the ones we love well enough to share." Plant's album is a "sophisticated yet beautifully grounded and emotional set ... Artists half his age could envy the life still in the old cat." The Sunday Times of London includes the album on its list of the 100 Best Records of the Year.

Jonny Greenwood joined London Contemporary Orchestra members for a performance at Albert Hall in Manchester earlier this year featuring his film scores to Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood and The Master; his own take on Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint; works by Messiaen, Michael Gordon, and more. Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, announced earlier today by The Recording Academy: The Black Keys, Nickel Creek, Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer, John Adams, and Brad Mehldau. Together, these artists' Nonesuch releases have garnered a total of 11 nominations this year. The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on "Grammy Sunday," February 8, 2015, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS.
