Mountain Man continues its first US tour in six years this spring with new headlining and festival dates across the south and east, beginning March 16 in Houston. The New Yorker's Amanda Petrusich has named Magic Ship one of the ten best albums of 2018: "It’s heavy with acquired wisdom, and with vocals so haunting they’ll make you shiver."

k.d. lang's Landmarks Live in Concert: A Great Performances Special, which features a concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed 1992 album Ingénue from the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, TX, premieres this Friday, December 14, on PBS. Lake Street Dive's new limited-edition 10" vinyl EP, Freak Yourself Out, first released for Record Store Day: Black Friday last month, is now available in the Nonesuch Store, while supplies last. Freak Yourself Out features five songs recorded during the sessions for the band's chart-topping album Free Yourself Up that had not been finished. The band had so much fun playing the songs on tour this year, they went back into the studio and finished them for this special release. 

Conor Oberst released his Nonesuch Records debut album, Upside Down Mountain, in May 2014. Earlier that spring, he had previewed what was to come with the release of a limited-edition vinyl 7" for Record Store Day, featuring the album track "Hundreds of Ways" b/w the album outtake "Fast Friends." Later that year, for Record Store Day: Black Friday, came another limited-edition vinyl 7" with two non-album tracks recorded during the Upside Down Mountain sessions: "Standing on the Outside Looking In" b/w "Sugar Street." All of those tracks are finally available digitally and can be heard here.

Pianist Jeremy Denk will join the faculty of The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM). Denk will lead a piano studio beginning in the 2019–20 academic year. "Jeremy Denk is the one of the definitive artists, teachers, and minds of his generation," says SFCM President David H. Stull. "His capacity to excel in multiple modes of artistic work is unparalleled and serves as an inspiration to all of us. I am honored to welcome him to SFCM and look forward to his tremendous work with our students." Nonesuch will release Denk's new album, c.1300–c.2000, in February.

NPR's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2018 includes David Byrne's "I Dance Like This," from his new album, American Utopia ("Byrne's best solo release in years, and its touring incarnation might just have been the most original stage show of 2018," says Bob Boilen), Gabriel Kahane's "November," from his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers ("a poignant reflection on the ties that still bind us, politics be damned," says Nate Chinen), and Gerald Finley's performance of "Batter My Heart" from John Adams's opera Doctor Atomic ("haunting, tautly gorgeous aria," says Anastasia Tsioulcas).

The English trio The Staves offer their contribution to the holiday-song canon with the just-released new song, "Home Alone, Too," in which the festive-jumper-festooned sisters dare to ask: "Are you watching Home Alone, too?" Gabriel Kahane recently joined singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers in the Spotify Studios in New York City to put their own spin on The Cure's classic tune "Friday I'm in Love"—Kahane as co-producer and on all of the instruments, Bridgers on vocals. The song is available now as part of the Spotify Singles series and can be heard here.

Aria Code, the new Rhiannon Giddens–hosted podcast series from The Metropolitan Opera and WQXR, launches today. The series, which takes a closer look at some of opera's legendary arias, opens with a look at Verdi's La Traviata and Violetta's Act I finale. The New Yorker says of the podcast: "It's a stunner on all levels, elegantly produced, with a heavenly blend of music and insight." Hear it here.
