    The first recording of John Adams's 2005 opera, Doctor Atomic, is due June 29 on Nonesuch. The composer leads the BBC Singers and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, with a cast led by Gerald Finley and Julia Bullock. Longtime Adams collaborator Peter Sellars created the libretto, drawing from original sources. "A magnificent accomplishment," exclaims the Los Angeles Times. "It contains music of unearthly splendor." Pre-order to download the aria "Batter my heart" and the chorus "At the sight of this" now.

    "I immediately got completely kidnapped by the musical world of John Adams," filmmaker Luca Guadagnino tells Pitchfork. Nonesuch recordings of Adams's music have been featured memorably in the three films of Guadagnino's "Desire Trilogy": Call Me By Your Name, A Bigger Splash, and I Am Love, which is scored entirely with Adams's music.     The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 2018–19 concert season—its centennial season—and among the artists joining the orchestra to perform this season at Walt Disney Concert Hall are John Adams and Audra McDonald. The LA Phil will also give the world premiere of new works by Adams, Steve Reich, and Louis Andriessen.

    John Adams has joined the faculty of the Royal Academy of Music in London as a Visiting Professor. In 2012, Adams conducted concerts at Lincoln Center and the BBC Proms in which Academy students performed alongside Juilliard School players; in 2015, the Academy gave him an Honorary Doctorate. As part of his new role, he returns to the Academy in 2017 to work with opera students, instrumentalists, and composers. "I'm proud and delighted to spend time with the very talented students of the Royal Academy of Music," he says. "I'll be able to spend time with the young composers, singers and instrumentalists in a relationship that is as fruitful for me as it hopefully will be for the students."

    Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch Records artists who were nominated for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, announced earlier today by The Recording Academy: Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Rhiannon Giddens, Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil, and John Adams. Together, these artists' Nonesuch releases have garnered a total of six nominations this year. The Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS.

    John Adams will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra in several performances in London and France over the coming week, starting with his Nativity Oratorio, El Niño, at the Barbican in London this Sunday, December 4, and his Scheherazade.2 with violinist Leila Josefowicz there next Thursday. They then head to France to perform Scheherazade.2 at the Opéra de Dijon and the Philharmonie de Paris, and Adams and the LSO perform El Niño, at the Philharmonie.
