Nonesuch Records will release a vinyl 7-inch single of two Randy Newman songs this coming Inauguration Day, January 20, 2017: "A Few Words in Defense of Our Country," from the new Randy Newman Songbook box set, b/w "Putin," a new song previously released only digitally. The Los Angeles Times called the former a "three-decades-on bookend to Political Science" that was "so funny it hurt." The 7-inch is now available to pre-order in the Nonesuch Store.

Nonesuch Records releases the three-CD box set The Randy Newman Songbook on December 16, 2016, following its recent release on vinyl. Nonesuch's Randy Newman Songbook series—comprising solo recordings of songs from throughout Newman's five-decade career—previously included two volumes, released on CD in 2003 and 2011. Sixteen additional songs from a newly released third volume, along with five bonus tracks ("Feels Like Home," "A Wedding in Cherokee County," "Family Album: Homage to Alfred, Emil and Lionel Newman," "A Few Words in Defense of Our Country," and "I'm Dreaming"), join those first two volumes to create this new complete Songbook box set. Mitchell Froom produced The Randy Newman Songbook, Vol. 1 (which has been remastered for this box set) and was joined on Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 by Newman's lifelong friend and colleague Lenny Waronker. The Songbook series—solo recordings of songs from throughout Randy Newman's five-decade career—previously included two volumes on CD; the box set marks their first vinyl release. Sixteen additional songs from a newly released third volume, along with five bonus tracks, join those first two volumes in a new, thematic sequencing, to create a complete Songbook box set. Randy Newman kicks off a month-long tour of Europe and the UK with two performances in the Netherlands, in Eindhoven and Nijmegen, followed by shows in Belgium in Antwerp, Bruges, and Brussels, and a return to the Netherlands for shows at The Hague and in Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Groningen. From there, Newman makes his way to the UK and Ireland, performing in London, Dublin, Glasgow, and Gateshead, and returns to the Continent to close out the tour in Germany and Austria.

Randy Newman, Emmylou Harris, and Rodney Crowell will take part in two intimate evenings of music in truly special settings as only New Orleans could offer. As part of the tenth-anniversary commemoration of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Nonesuch Records, Warner Bros. Records, and New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) will present an evening with Newman on August 24 and an evening with Harris and Crowell on August 26 to help NOAHH build homes for and with those who need them. Each event will offer music in a spectacular private residence, memorable food and good company.

The Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA has announced its 2015–16 season, and featured among the artists performing this season are several artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Randy Newman, Sam Amidon, Richard Goode, and Rokia Traoré. The season also includes works by Steve Reich, as part of a celebration of choreographer Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker, and the West Coast premiere of a new work by Timo Andres.

Randy Newman, Mandy Patinkin, and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy joined a panoply of performers, politicians, diplomats, musicians, actors, journalists, writers, athletes, Sesame Street notables and more for the final episode of The Colbert Report last night. Newman, at the piano, accompanied host Stephen Colbert and this cavalcade of stars, friends, and well-wishers, both in the studio and afar (even far, far away in outer space), to bid the show a fond farewell, singing a rousing rendition of the classic tune “We’ll Meet Again.” You can watch the stellar sing-a-long here.

The New Yorker has announced the program for the 2014 New Yorker Festival, taking place October 10–12, in New York City, which includes four artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Randy Newman in conversation with Susan Morrison, Jeremy Denk giving a talk on Comedy and Convention from Mozart to Seinfeld, Laurie Anderson with Alex Ross, and Stephen Sondheim with Adam Gopnik.
