The set included four songs from his new album, Dark Matter: "Putin," "She Chose Me," "It's A Jungle Out There," and "Wandering Boy." "I think Randy Newman is a national treasure," says Boilen. Dark Matter, Randy Newman's first album of new material in nine years, is now available on vinyl, following its recent CD and digital release. Produced by long-time Newman collaborators Mitchell Froom, Lenny Waronker, and David Boucher, the album includes songs about Vladimir Putin, the Kennedy brothers, Sonny Boy Williamson, science vs. religion, love and loss, and more. Randy Newman "remains first and foremost a craftsman of song, capable of telling ordinary stories in ways no one quite has before," says NPR. Newman is "still at the top of his game," says the AP. He "just gets better," says ABC News. "Dark Matter is the work of a master craftsman ... frankly brilliant."
