Nonesuch Records wishes Steve Reich a very happy 75th birthday today and has added a new station to Nonesuch Radio featuring works from the composer's quarter-century of Nonesuch albums. Nonesuch has also teamed up with Reich's publisher, Boosey & Hawkes, for a prize package giveaway. NPR Music, noting that "such a birthday calls for major celebration," features a tribute to Reich from a number of NPR contributors and musicians who have worked with the composer. Q2 Music airs an updated presentation of its week-long festival Maximum Reich. The next two weeks bring all-Reich concerts from Kronos Quartet in Berkeley, Ensemble Modern in Paris, and the LSO in London.

Steve Reich's new album, WTC 9/11, is out this week. The album includes the title piece, Reich's reflection on the 2001 World Trade Center attacks, performed by Kronos Quartet, as well as Mallet Quartet, performed by Sō Percussion, and Dance Patterns, featuring members of Steve Reich and Musicians. BBC Radio 3's CD Review finds the title piece "startling, emotionally charged and moving." BBC Music says "Reich is as eloquent as ever." The Independent gives the album four stars.

Steve Reich's latest album, WTC 9/11, is out next Tuesday. The composer's 75th birthday follows less than two weeks later, on October 3, and the celebrations abound. He is the subject of a special feature on iTunes titled The World of Steve Reich, part of a series that explores every facet of an iconic musician’s career—their roots, their catalog, and other artists they have influenced. Included are six multi-artist compilations, a best-of colleciton, and a sale on Reich's catalog. "We're speaking of the impact of an artist who has changed music as we know it," says iTunes, "and maybe even more importantly, as we will know it."

Steve Reich's new piece, WTC 9/11, was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday, in the show's coverage of the tenth anniversary of the attacks. KQED's The California Report spoke with Reich and Kronos Quartet's David Harrington about the piece, which Kronos performs on the forthcoming album. There's one more day to listen to the entire album—which also includes Mallet Quartet, performed by Sō Percussion, and Dance Patterns, performed by members of Steve Reich and Musicians—as an NPR First Listen. The Seattle Times calls WTC 9/11 "a stunning work." Sequenza21 calls it "unflinchingly eloquent."

Steve Reich is in Kraków, Poland, for the ninth annual Sacrum Profanum festival, which gets under way on Sunday with an inaugural concert broadcast on Polish Radio 2. The week-long festival offers a retrospective of some of the composer's most iconic works, along with newer additions to his repertoire, and features performances by Jonny Greenwood, Alarm Will Sound, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Ensemble Modern, Aphex Twin, Tom Verlaine, and the composer himself.

Steve Reich is featured on the latest episode of Studio 360, which looks at various artists' responses to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Reich discusses his piece WTC 9/11 and explains how, when asked by Kronos Quartet to write a new piece, he came to create a very personal piece that would reflect on that fateful day. Steve Reich is featured in a new New York Times video that is part of a series of videos from the Times looking at artists' responses to the tragic events September 11, 2001. Reich, whose new piece, WTC 9/11, reflects on the World Trade Center attacks, discusses how he came to write the piece and how he developed its form, pairing three string quartets with pre-recorded voices whose final vowels and consonants are elongated. Reich discussed WTC 9/11 on the BBC World Service's The Strand, launching the show's week-long look at artistic responses to 9/11, and will be featured on BBC Radio 3's forthcoming special A Guernica for Gotham, airing this Sunday.

Steve Reich's 75th birthday celebrations continue with a free concert in Chicago's Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park tonight. The concert features performances by Chicago's own eighth blackbird and Third Coast Percussion and an all-Reich program comprising what the Chicago Tribune counts among "some of his finest pieces": Double Sextet, Mallet Quartet, and Music for 18 Musicians.
