The Bad Plus Joshua Redman's self-titled, debut album is due out next week and is streaming in full till then as an NPR First Listen at npr.org. The album is "a roaring and beautiful summit meeting," says NPR's Tom Moon. "The ideas are impressive by themselves, but become more powerful as Redman and the rhythm section go about developing them ... [T]he real triumph of The Bad Plus Joshua Redman: It exhibits genuinely fresh thinking." The album, he concludes, "draws on a range of old ideas (as old as Chopin nocturnes and '60s rock) as fuel for a journey into the murky, terrifying, thrilling unknown."

Today marks the release of Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell's new album, The Traveling Kind, with the vinyl to follow on June 30. "This is what it sounds like when true equals, both deep into their journeys, draw out the best in each other," says NPR. USA Today names it Album of the Week. "Artists such as Harris and Crowell, of course, sustain their longevity by using time, and the experience it brings, to enrich their creative and interpretive work." "Their first duo album, Old Yellow Moon, won a Grammy," says the Boston Globe, "and this follow-up is even better." The duo has added a number of new tour dates this fall.

Today marks the release of HIVE1, the label debut from Tyondai Braxton. Written and recorded throughout 2013 and 2014, the recording comprises eight pieces that were originally conceived for a performance work called HIVE that debuted at New York’s Guggenheim Museum in 2013. Q magazine calls the new album "a sonically absorbing experience." NPR says: "[W]hat sets this album apart is its playfulness—the feeling that experimenting with sound is a joyful game." Braxton gives the Canadian premiere of HIVE at the Mutek festival in Montreal later this month and performs the piece for three nights at The Kitchen in NYC in early June

The Congolese seven-piece band Mbonwana Star releases its debut full-length album, From Kinshasa, next week, with vinyl to follow on June 9. But you don't need to wait till then to hear it: the album is streaming in full all this week via Vice's music site Noisey. The group stiches "together bombastic African rhythms with lithe guitars and sinuous basslines to make your body bang," says Noisey. "Mbonwana Star's debut album, From Kinshasa, features a breadth of textures and moods," the site continues. "Its strength lies in its dynamic eclecticism, a gleeful mish-mash of genres ... It's time to press play and immerse yourself in another world."

In honor of groundbreaking American composer Terry Riley’s 80th birthday, Nonesuch Records releases One Earth, One People, One Love: Kronos Plays Terry Riley—a five-disc box set of four albums of his work composed for, and performed by, his longtime friends and champions Kronos Quartet—as well as the individual record Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector: Music of Terry Riley, on June 23, 2015 (July 10 outside of North America). Riley and Kronos met more than 35 years ago, and since then, the quartet has commissioned 27 works from him, more than from any other composer in the group’s history. Pre-orders include an instant download of the piece G Song, which you can hear here. St Germain (aka Ludovic Navarre), whose albums Boulevard and Tourist originated a genre of French electronic music that later included artists like Air, has returned to the studio to create his first album in 15 years. The self-titled record, due October 9 on Nonesuch Records in the US, marries percussive grooves, which have always been central to St Germain’s sound, with a new element: traditional Malian music. Olivia Chaney's debut album, The Longest River, is out today. The Sunday Times of London calls it "a mesmerising debut." It earns four stars from MOJO; Observer, which calls it "an enchanting, stately creation"; and Irish Times, which says it's "a beautiful job of work ... a hugely rewarding listen." The Arts Desk exclaims: "Chaney’s voice has a remarkable clarity and purity, a lyrical and emotional strength that puts her up among the best—of her generation or those who came before." Chaney performs on BBC Radio 3's In Tune today and will tour the UK in May and North America in June.

Two classics albums from World Circuit Records are now available on vinyl: the 2001 reissue of Orchestra Baobab's much sought-after 1982 debut, Pirates Choice, and Ali Farka Touré's Grammy Award-winning 1993 collaboration with Ry Cooder, Talking Timbuktu. Each is available on double 180-gram vinyl LPs from World Circuit, distributed in North America on Nonesuch Records, and can be found at your favorite local record shop and in the vinyl section of the Nonesuch Store.

When Record Store Day took place earlier this month, included among the special releases were limited-edition vinyl from two Nonesuch artists: Robert Plant's 10" vinyl EP More Roar, with three tracks from his 2014 lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar world tour, and Steve Reich's Grammy Award-winning Music for 18 Musicians re-issued on two 180-gram vinyl LPs. A very limited number of both items is now available in the Nonesuch Store.

London-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Olivia Chaney's debut album, The Longest River, is due out next week on Nonesuch Records.
