Guatemalan-born singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno and American musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer Van Dyke Parks mark US Independence Day with the release of their heartfelt interpretation of Trinidadian artist David Rudder's 1998 song "The Immigrants." "It's a powerful message of courage, love and faith that resonates to this day and should be spread wide across the entire nation and beyond," says Moreno. "We all share the same dreams, and we came here to fulfill them and to prosper, together." Parks adds: "'The Immigrants' has a political punch, while also being joyful and underscoring how our culture is refreshed by immigrants like Gaby, and how those who arrive here can really redefine, and help build America." Proceeds will be donated to CARECEN, which empowers Central Americans and all immigrants by defending human and civil rights, working for social and economic justice, and promoting cultural diversity.

The first recording of John Adams's 2005 opera, Doctor Atomic, is out now. Peter Sellars created the libretto, drawing from original sources. The composer leads the BBC Singers, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and a cast led by Gerald Finley as Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer. "A magnificent accomplishment that easily takes its place alongside the other Adams-Sellars triumphs," exclaimed the Los Angeles Times. "It contains music of unearthly splendor." Composer, pianist, and singer Gabriel Kahane makes his Nonesuch debut with the release of Book of Travelers on August 24, 2018; vinyl September 7. The album comprises his ten-song musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US he embarked upon the day after the 2016 Presidential election. He left behind his cell phone and other internet-connected devices, spending two weeks with dozens of strangers whose stories are woven into the cycle. Olivia Chaney's new album, Shelter, is out now on Nonesuch. Produced by Thomas Bartlett, the album is eight original songs plus Chaney's takes on songs by Purcell and the Everly Brothers. She has also released a video for the track "House on a Hill," filmed at the rustic, 18th-century cottage in the hills of the North Yorkshire Moors where she wrote the record. Watch it here. The Observer cites Chaney's "dazzling vocals" and calls Shelter "an elegant, luminous album." Uncut calls it "transcendent refuge from the storm." The Daily Mirror says it's "a triumph." Punch Brothers' first self-produced album, All Ashore, is due July 20, 2018, from Nonesuch, with the vinyl on September 7. The record includes nine original songs written by the band. "It's a meditation on committed relationships in the present day, particularly in the present political climate," says Chris Thile. Rostam releases Half-Light Remixes: EP 1—reimagined versions of four tracks from his 2017 debut album, Half-Light—today. The EP features new takes on "Gwan" from Tourist, "Warning Intruders" from Jim-E Stack, "Half-Light" from Instupendo, and "Bike Dream" from Matsor Projects. Rostam kicks off a tour of Europe and the UK with performances with festival sets at Primavera Sound in Barcelona today and All Points East in London on Saturday, followed by shows in France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, and a return to the UK for two nights in London.

Joshua Redman is joined by drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and cornetist Ron Miles for Still Dreaming, an album inspired by his father Dewey Redman's band Old and New Dreams, out now. That band had an all-star lineup of Ornette Coleman collaborators: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell. "Consistently riveting," says the Washington Post. "It all makes for a jazz adventure that begs for repeated listening," says the Lexington Herald-Leader. "The more you tune in, the more you hear the present day curators of a sublime jazz legacy forging its music into something unmistakably new."

Brad Mehldau Trio's new album, Seymour Reads the Constitution! , is out now. The pianist and his longtime trio—drummer Jeff Ballard and bassist Larry Grenadier—perform three Mehldau originals combined with interpretations of pop songs (Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson), jazz tunes (Elmo Hope, Sam Rivers), and the American songbook (Frederick Loewe). "This is sumptuous, collective improvisation of the highest order," exclaims The Arts Desk's five-star review. "It's so good, it sounds effortless ... Gorgeous."

Thomas Bartlett and Nico Muhly's Peter Pears: Balinese Ceremonial Music is out now. The album is nine songs written by the duo plus three gamelan transcriptions by ethnomusicologist Colin McPhee that inspired the songs. Bartlett and Muhly play pianos and keyboards on the album, and Bartlett sings, joined by others on strings and metallic pitched percussion. Bartlett and Muhly perform from Peter Pears at LPR in NYC on May 24, National Concert Hall in Dublin on June 6, and LSO St Luke's in London on June 8.

Still Dreaming, the new album from saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman, drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and trumpeter Ron Miles, out next Friday, May 25, is streaming in full till then as an NPR First Listen. The album was inspired by the band Old and New Dreams, of which Joshua Redman's father Dewey was a member and which had an all-star lineup of Ornette Coleman collaborators. "The rhythmic undertow in this band feels true to its inspiration, as does the airtight-yet-relaxed rapport between Redman and Miles," says NPR's Nate Chinen.
