    The recordings made by Abelardo Barroso with Orquesta Sensación in Havana during the 1950s represent one of the pinnacles of the golden age of Cuban music. Now, on the album Cha Cha Cha, World Circuit, the label behind Buena Vista Social Club, releases a re-mastered selection of 14 of their most irresistible recordings, in North America via Nonesuch Records. The Guardian gives Cha Cha Cha four stars, calling it both "another reminder of Cuba’s extraordinary musical history" and "almost uncannily contemporary."

    A new, five-track digital EP is out now, featuring music from the recording sessions for the album Toumani & Sidiki, a rare father-and-son collaboration between kora master Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki, the instrument’s emerging star. The EP extends the collection and explores further what happens "when two geniuses bridge generations" (Los Angeles Times).

    Nonesuch will release Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Inherent Vice, December 15, with the vinyl to follow March 3. An adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, Inherent Vice, in theaters starting December 12, is set in the tail end of the psychedelic ’60s and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, and Owen Wilson. The soundtrack features nine compositions by Greenwood, an unreleased Radiohead tune performed by members of Supergrass, plus other recordings from the movie’s era. Additional performers include The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Neil Young, Can, and The Marketts, among others. The Inherent Vice soundtrack is available to pre-order now in the Nonesuch Store.

    Rhiannon Giddens, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of Carolina Chocolate Drops, makes her solo recording debut with Tomorrow Is My Turn, due February 10 on Nonesuch Records (vinyl due March 3). The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, features a broad range of songs from genres as diverse as gospel, jazz, blues, and country, including works made famous by Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Odetta, and Nina Simone. Nonesuch Store pre-orders on CD and vinyl include an instant download of the album tracks "Don't Let It Trouble Your Mind" and "Shake Sugaree" (both of which you can hear here) and an exclusive print autographed by Giddens.

    Today is the 20th anniversary of Wilco's first-ever concert, and to mark the occasion, Nonesuch Records releases two new Wilco collections: Alpha Mike Foxtrot, a four-disc box set of rare studio and live recordings collected from the band’s extensive audio archives, and What’s Your 20?, a two-CD compilation of essential tracks culled from the band’s previously released studio recordings. Hear the Alpha Mike Foxtrot track "Blasting Fonda" here. Wilco will play six sold-out shows at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre in December, including one with special guest Sam Amidon.

    On January 13, 2015, Nonesuch Records releases a two-disc collection capturing a one-night-only concert held at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013 to celebrate the music of the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis, featuring live performances by icons and rising stars of folk and Americana. They sang "in pitch perfect tone that left an oft-awestruck audience silently stunned," says the Los Angeles Times, "then vocally thrilled." The concert, the resulting Showtime documentary, and this live album were produced by Joel and Ethan Coen and T Bone Burnett.

    James Farm’s sophomore album, City Folk, is out now, a new collection of ten original tunes written by all four members of the collaborative band: Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman, and Eric Harland. It earns five stars from the Financial Times ("ten beautifully crafted miniatures that rock with rhythm") and four stars from the Guardian, which notes the "enthralling improvisations [on] this inviting set," and the Evening Standard, which describes the band as "four crack musicians and improvisers whose fierce grooves and synergy make for spine-tingling listening." The Buffalo News calls City Folk "the second first-rate disc by one of the more impressive jazz quartets to come together in the past few years."

    Sam Amidon's new album of reimagined folk songs, Lily-O, was released on CD and digitally last month and is now available on vinyl. The album was produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson and features guitarist Bill Frisell, along with Amidon’s other frequent collaborators, bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Chris Vatalaro. The New York Times calls the album "hauntingly beautiful." Amidon kicks off a European tour on November 14 and performs at the EFG London Jazz Festival with Frisell and Ismaily on November 16.

    Today marks the release of composer Steve Reich’s album Radio Rewrite on Nonesuch Records (October 6 in the UK). The album features the first recording of the 2012 title piece, which references two songs by Radiohead and is performed by Alarm Will Sound led by Alan Pierson; Electric Counterpoint (1987), performed by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood; and Piano Counterpoint, a 2011 transcription by Vincent Corver of Reich’s 1973 Six Pianos, performed by pianist Vicky Chow.

    Lily-O, a new album of reimagined folk songs by Sam Amidon is out now (with vinyl to come October 28).The album was produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson and features jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, bassist Shahzad Ismaily, and drummer Chris Vatalaro. "As well as being master craftsmen," says fRoots, these musicians "create atmosphere—cinematic, mesmeric and groove-rich." The Guardian gives the album four stars, calling it "a compellingly quiet, intense affair ... subtle and intriguing." The Independent, in its four-star reivew, says Amidon's "ability to imbue traditional songs with an ahistorical immediacy has never been better realized than on Lily-O." Esquire UK calls it "magical." MusicOMH gives four-and-a-half stars to this "gorgeous" album.

    Today marks the release of Nico Muhly’s opera Two Boys—recorded live during the Metropolitan Opera’s 2013 production with conductor David Robertson and director Bartlett Sher—on Nonesuch Records. The opera, with a libretto by award-winning playwright Craig Lucas, is loosely based on true events and follows a lonely detective whose investigation of a seemingly simple crime draws her into a complex web of online intrigue. Alice Coote sings the role of Detective Inspector Anne Strawson and Paul Appleby sings Brian, the 16-year-old boy at the center of her investigations. Two Boys is Muhly’s Nonesuch debut.
