    Conor Oberst capped off a week celebrating the release of his new album, Upside Down Mountain, with an appearance on CBS This Morning: Saturday. He was backed by the band Dawes to perform two tracks from the new album: “Hundreds of Ways” and “You Are Your Mother’s Child.” You can watch both, as well as a web-exclusive performance of “Time Forgot” below. Oberst’s tour with Dawes as special guests continues in the Midwest this week.

    Natalie Merchant was featured on two radio sessions over the weekend: NPR’s World Cafe Friday, performing four songs from her new, self-titled album, “Lulu,” “Texas,” “Giving Up Everything,” and “Ladybird,” and on BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris program Sunday, performing “It’s A-Coming” and “Texas” from the album, plus “Kind & Generous,” from 1998's Ophelia. Merchant, says Harris, has “one of the most beautiful and distinctive voices in the whole of rock and pop music.” Hear the Harris session here.

    The Black Keys’ new album, Turn Blue, debuted this week at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This is the highest chart debut yet for the acclaimed duo, whose previous album, El Camino, debuted at #2 in 2011. It is also the first #1 album for Nonesuch Records. Turn Blue is also the band’s highest charting album to date internationally, debuting at #1 in Canada and Australia, #2 in the UK and New Zealand, #3 in Ireland, #4 in France and Switzerland and #5 in Austria and Holland. The album also charted in the top ten in Germany, Belgium, Finland, and Portugal.

    Conor Oberst, who performed songs from his new album, Upside Down Mountain, at Rough Trade NYC in Brooklyn last night, recently stopped by WFUV, 90.7 FM, in NYC to discuss the album and perform three songs from it for WFUV Live: "Hundreds of Ways," "Double Life," and "Time Forgot." You can watch them here. "For someone looking for a primer on the talents of Conor Oberst as a poet and songwriter," says FUV, "one need not look any further than Upside Down Mountain ... [He] has established himself as one of rock’s preeminent creative minds."

    Conor Oberst was musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC last night, joined by Dawes to perform "Zigzagging Toward the Light," off his just-released album, Upside Down Mountain. He recently stopped by Last.fm to talk about and perform "Hundreds of Ways" and "Double Life" off the new album. Watch all of these performances and the interview here. The New York Times says: "All of Mr. Oberst’s gifts align on Upside Down Mountain." He can be heard on NPR's World Cafe this afternoon and performs at Rough Trade NYC in Brooklyn tonight.

    Conor Oberst's new solo album, Upside Down Mountain, is out now. "Oberst faces west and backward, brilliantly, on Upside Down Mountain," writes Rolling Stone's David Fricke in a four-star review. "A sumptuous immersion in Seventies California folk pop, it is the most immediately charming album he has ever made." Oberst performs on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight and on CBS This Morning on Saturday. He performs at Rough Trade NYC in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

    Toumani and Sidiki, the new father-and-son recording from kora master Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki, is out now in North America. The Guardian calls it "the finest Toumani collaboration since his classic work with Ali Farka Touré." The Evening Standard calls it "a rare treat, one of the albums of the year." The Times of London says: "This album ranks among Toumani's best work." Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté will tour the United States this fall.

    Emmylou Harris’s groundbreaking album Wrecking Ball was reissued last month on Nonesuch Records. In celebration, Harris and producer Daniel Lanois, along with Jim Wilson on guitar and Steven Nistor on drums, kicked off an international tour in North America then and now launch the European leg of the tour with a concert at Carre in Amsterdam tonight. The tour continues with stops in Antwerp, Eindhoven, Brighton, and Bristol, and a two-night run at the Barbican in London.

    Natalie Merchant joined The School of Life founder and philosopher Alain de Botton for a public conversation about her new, self-titled album, last night in London. During the event, she unveiled a new video for the album track "Lulu." The video features film excerpts from Pandora's Box, the 1929 silent film directed by G.W. Pabst and starring Louise Brooks, the subject of the song. Watch it here. Merchant returns to Later ... with Jools Holland tonight on BBC Two.

Entitled Explorations: The Sound of Nonesuch Records, this curated weekend of events includes five London concerts taking place in LSO St Luke's, Milton Court Concert Hall, and the Barbican Hall. Featured among the weekend's events are Jonny Greenwood, Kronos Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Timo Andres, Sam Amidon, Natalie Merchant, Rhiannon Giddens, Olivia Chaney, and others performing works by Greenwood, Mehldau, Andres, Steve Reich, John Adams, Philip Glass, Frederic Rzewski, Louis Andriessen, Henryk Górecki, Donnacha Dennehy, and more. Satellite events continue later in the month from Jeremy Denk, Emmylou Harris, Caetano Veloso, and Toumani & Sidiki Diabaté.

    Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté is joined by his eldest son, Sidiki, for the new father-and-son recording Toumani & Sidiki. The album, due out next Monday, May 19, in North America, is streaming in full all this week via the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog. Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté will embark on a US tour starting at BAM in Brooklyn, September 24, and running through October 3.
