John Adams will lead the Yale Philharmonia in a concert at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on Sunday, October 19. The program opens with Stravinsky’s Orpheus, followed by Adams’s Beethoven-inspired piece Absolute Jest (also featuring the Brentano String Quartet in its debut year as Yale’s quartet-in-residence), and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major. The artists will also perform the program at Yale University's Woolsey Hall on Friday, October 17.

Pat Metheny Unity Group launches a tour of Asia at the Sejong Center in Seoul on Sunday. The band then heads to Japan for a three-night run at Sumida Triphony Hall in Tokyo and stops in Osaka, Nagoya, and Kobe, and to China for a headline set at the JZ Music Festival in Shanghai. The Unity Group then begins a four-city tour of Australia, with stops in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Canberra, culminating at the Sydney Opera House. From there, it’s up to Singapore for a show at the Esplanade Concert Hall. The band kicks off the next leg of its North American tour in November.

Robert Plant and his band The Sensational Space Shifters gave the culminating concert of the Nonesuch Records at BAM series celebrating the label's 50th anniversary, performing songs from his new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, and several Led Zeppelin favorites. "Robert Plant was just brilliant Sunday night in Brooklyn," says NPR's Bob Boilen, who hosted NPR's live video stream of the event. "Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters played a stunning set of music that did what Robert Plant does best: mixing up American blues, British rock, North African rhythms and even some electronica with that voice, still filled with passion after all these years." David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, currently playing at NYC's Public Theater, opens in previews in London on Tuesday, September 30. The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. The official Opening Night is October 14. "I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well."

Robert Plant, who kicks off a North American tour Thursday and performs on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night, spoke with CBS This Morning earlier this week. "He is known as the 'Golden God,'" says CBS. "And he's not showing signs of stopping ... On his tenth solo album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, Plant weaves world music with blues, bluegrass, and a lifetime of adventure." Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet's David Harrington were guests on WNYC's The Brian Lehrer Show to discuss their first-ever collaboration, Landfall. Anderson and Kronos perform the piece, which was inspired by her experience of Hurricane Sandy, for the Nonesuch Records at BAM series through Saturday, September 27. Landfall, says Lehrer, is "both a timeless meditation on loss and other themes and a very timely one for hurricane season and this week of the climate march and climate summit." Rokia Traoré, who performs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music tonight as part of the Nonesuch Records at BAM series, stopped by WNYC's Soundcheck to perform and talk with host John Schaefer. "It's impossible not to be transported by Rokia Traoré's voice and unique adaptation of rock," says the show. "The daughter of a diplomat, Traoré spent her childhood traveling to Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, and France, and her travels exposed her to jazz, classical, Indian music and rock. Those early transformative experiences especially translate into her newest release, 2013's Beautiful Africa." Hear the segment here.

The Black Keys were the musical guests on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night on NBC, performing “Gotta Get Away,” off their latest album, Turn Blue. Watch the performance plus a web-exclusive performance of Edwyn Collins's "A Girl Like You" here. The band performs at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn tonight and tomorrow night, followed by tour stops in Washington, DC, and Chicago. The Boston Globe, reviewing Sunday's show, says: "[T]he fact that they have been able to become one of the most prominent rock outfits of the 2010s while keeping things simple is not only a rebuke to arena-rock excesses, it’s a testament to their talent."

Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet bring Landfall, their first-ever collaboration, inspired by Anderson’s experience of Hurricane Sandy, to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) for five nights this week, September 23–27, for the Nonesuch Records at BAM celebration of the label's 50th anniversary. Landfall is an evocative meditation on transience, combining poignant texts and music fortified by innovative technology. Later this season, Anderson and Kronos perform the piece in Columbus, Austin, and Chicago.
