Rhiannon Giddens, who begins her four-night residency with the Boston Pops titled Redefining American Music tonight, stopped by Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to perform a few tunes in the museum's Musical Instruments Gallery. She takes a look at the MFA's historical banjo collection and plays one of the banjos and sings, with Carolina Chocolate Drops' Hubby Jenkins on bones and Jason Sypher on bass. You can watch it here.

Rhiannon Giddens will take part in NPR Music’s multi-artist Turning the Tables Live: The Motherlode on Wednesday, July 31, and Yola will help close out the season in The Roots of American Music Weekend: Americanafest NYC, performing on Saturday, August 10, ahead of Patty Griffin.

The seven-show run starts in Kansas City on September 4, followed by sold-out shows in St. Louis, Cleveland, Vienna (Virginia), and Toronto, culminating in two nights in New Orleans, September 27 and 28. The dates follow Yola's Newport Folk Festival set and US tour with Lake Street Dive this summer and come ahead of the Austin City Limits festival and shows with Andrew Bird in October.

Journal Topics: Artist NewsOn TourThursday,April 18,2019Stephin Merritt will perform original music he has written to score a screening of Tod Browning's 1925 silent film The Unholy Three, starring Lon Cheney, at The Town Hall in NYC on May 18, 2019. The Magnetic Fields front man will be joined by accordionist and novelist Daniel Handler (A Series of Unfortunate Events) and violist Pinky Weitzman for the one-night-only event. This is Merritt's first live silent-film scoring event on the East Coast, following his successful live score to two other Tod Browning films at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2010 and 2014.
