David Byrne, who has begun his American Utopia arena tour of the UK and Ireland, was a guest on BBC Newsnight on Friday. He spoke with Kirsty Wark about the American Utopia album and tour, the forthcoming release of the complete True Stories soundtrack, and his collaborations with St. Vincent and Fatboy Slim. In honor of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch puppeteer Caroll Spinney's retirement from Sesame Street after nearly 50 years, we revisit Kronos Quartet's trip to that beloved street in 1987 to talk with Big Bird about the string quartet and making music. "His open and kind-hearted view of the world and how we should treat each other is something we should forever aspire to," Kronos says of Spinney, and we concur.

Paul Thomas Anderson's Academy Award–winning film Phantom Thread, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville, and Vicky Krieps, will receive its HBO premiere on Saturday, September 29, and will be available to watch via the HBO GO and HBO NOW apps. The Guardian says there is "such pure delicious pleasure in this film"; Financial Times says Anderson "gets everything right here." The soundtrack, featuring Jonny Greenwood's Oscar-nominated score, is out on Nonesuch.

Punch Brothers returned to Conan on TBS as musical guests, performing "It's All Part of the Plan" from their new album, All Ashore. Watch it here. The band's big summer tour resumes in Washington, DC, on September 6, and culminates at Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 17. The European tour is in November.

Punch Brothers performed much of their new album, All Ashore, and more at the House of Blues in Boston on tour in July. The WGBH program Front Row Boston captured the full concert, which you can watch here. The tour continues in the US into mid-September and heads to Europe in November.

Punch Brothers were on CBS This Morning: Saturday over the weekend for a Saturday Sessions set of songs from their new album, All Ashore. They performed "It's All Part of the Plan," "Three Dots and a Dash," and the web-exclusive "The Angel of Doubt," and discussed the "mind meld" that happens when they get together to play. Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, who are now touring North America with music from their album Junun as special guests of Radiohead, performed the album's title track on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. Mandy Patinkin was a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night, along with actress Lucy Liu and musician Shawn Mendes, who is a special guest / co-host on the show all week. Patinkin gave Mendes some love advice based on his own marriage of forty years and gave the audience of taste of what Mendes's song "Stitches" sounds like in Yiddish. Lake Street Dive were musical guests on Conan on TBS last night. The band performed "Good Kisser" from the new album Free Yourself Up. You can watch it here. The band has brought its Free Yourself Up tour to California, at the Ford Theater in LA last night, House of Blues in Anaheim tonight, The Fillmore in San Francisco on Friday, and BottleRock Napa Valley on Sunday.

Audra McDonald was a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS. She joined Corden and Dan Stevens for a few very special performances of inappropriate musicals. "Many of Broadway's biggest hit musicals have been based on movies," says Corden. "But there are so many more great movie possibilities.
