James Farm kicked off its four-night residency at New York's Jazz Standard last night with two stellar sets featuring songs from their self-titled debut album. The band stopped by WNYC's Soundcheck earlier this week to discuss and perform songs off the new record. Pat Metheny's new album, What's It All About, includes Metheny's solo-guitar take on the Beatles classic "And I Love Her." The video, which premiered on MSN yesterday, is now available here. "The Beatles were huge for me," Metheny says. "Without them, I don't know if I even would have become a musician or a guitar player ... It is kind of impossible to imagine doing a record like this without including at least one Beatles song."

The Low Anthem recently performed a session for Crawdaddy! featuring songs from their latest Nonesuch release, Smart Flesh. You can watch the performances here. "There’s a reason why Low Anthem is getting a lot of buzz these days," says Crawdaddy! The band's "vintage sensibility is lifted by pristine vocals and a collaborative energy among them that draws from their respective strengths." The band performs in Brooklyn tonight, followed by shows in Connecticut and at the Clearwater festival in upstate New York.

Pat Metheny's latest Nonesuch album, What's It All About, is out today. The Boston Herald gives it an A-, saying: "Metheny’s thoughtful, loving approach elevates every tune he tackles to a realm of beauty." As Chris Thile and Michael Daves gear up to perform live at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival this Friday, NPR has posted a Tiny Desk Concert featuring the mandolin-and-guitar duo performing songs off their debut album, Sleep with One Eye Open, recently released on Nonesuch. You can listen to the complete performance here. "What stands out between these two musicians when they play traditional music," says NPR's Bob Boilen, "is the level of extremity they achieve. This is small-town music with New York City intensity."

Pat Metheny's new album, What's It All About, is out tomorrow. What's It All About, Pat Metheny's forthcoming sequel to his first solo baritone-guitar effort, One Quiet Night, features classic tunes from songwriters like Paul Simon, Lennon & McCartney, Burt Bacharach, and Henry Mancini. "With What's It All About," says All About Jazz, "Metheny's ability to think outside the box never comes at the expense of losing sight of it, making music that's easy and accessible, but with deeper layers simmering just beneath its calm surface." In a new video posted here, Metheny introduces the new album by performing a number of tracks and discussing the album's inspiration.

Shawn Colvin, who is currently on tour, recently appeared on an episode of HBO's Treme. On the show, from David Simon, creator of The Wire, Colvin performs her song "I'm Gone," off her 2006 Nonesuch debut album, These Four Walls, with violinist Lucia Micarelli, who plays Annie on the series. The New York City Ballet begins a six-show run of George Balanchine's Jewels, featuring music by Fauré, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky, at Lincoln Center tonight. Two selections from Jewels—"Emeralds" and "Diamonds"—are included in the Nonesuch DVD of the New York City Ballet's 1977 performance from the acclaimed PBS series Dance in America. The Los Angeles Times says the works became "instant classics" when filmed for the series.
