Chris Thile and Yo-Yo Ma—who made the 2017 Nonesuch album Bach Trios with Edgar Meyer—kicked off the Atlantic Festival in Washington, DC, this week with an eclectic medley of music from Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, "Rabbit in the Log," and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." You can watch it here. Thile hosts the public radio show Live From Here, including with Rachael & Vilray on October 26, and leads his own US tour in the months ahead.

Sam Amidon's 7" vinyl record Fatal Flower Garden EP (A Tribute to Harry Smith) is due November 15 on Nonesuch. On the EP, Amidon performs four songs from Anthology of American Folk Music, Smith’s beloved and influential 1920s and ’30s folk music recordings. Amidon and frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily play all the instruments; Leo Abrahams engineered, produced, and mixed. Rachael & Vilray, whose self-titled debut album is due October 4 on Nonesuch, stopped by New York public radio station WFUV way back in July 2018 to perform live in Studio A. Rhiannon Giddens stopped by NPR, joined by multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi and bassist Jason Sypher, to perform a Tiny Desk Concert of songs from her new album, there is no Other, and her previous album, Freedom Highway. You can watch it here. "Despite its weightiness, Rhiannon Giddens' music is entertaining, and her voice, the melodies, and her accompaniment are engaging," says host Bob Boilen. "But it is music infused with lessons and deep purpose—something all too rare in popular music in my opinion."

Vagabon has released a Maegan Houang–directed video for "Water Me Down," the latest from her self-titled sophomore album, due October 18 via Nonesuch Records. You can watch it here. Vagabon will share an advance play of the album and chat with Pitchfork's Matthew Schnipper at the Sonos Store in Manhattan on October 9. She tours this fall with headlining shows in NYC, LA, London, Brussels, Berlin, and Paris and a run supporting Angel Olsen. 

Yola announced that her Walk Through Fire World Tour returns to North America in early 2020 for two months of shows. The newly announced run begins in Cambridge on January 7 and includes shows in DC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, and more. The shows follow a busy autumn of US headline shows and festival sets, a performance with Kacey Musgraves at The Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and a tour of the UK and Europe. Additionally, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles will host a special conversation and performance with Yola on October 16. 

Devendra Banhart stopped by WNYC Studios as the guest on New Sounds' Soundcheck to talk with host John Schaefer about his new album, Ma, and perform three songs from it: "Is This Nice?," "Carolina," and "Taking a Page." A new album track from the forthcoming Rachael & Vilray—the debut album by Lake Street Dive singer-songwriter Rachael Price and composer, singer, and guitarist Vilray—"Let's Make Love on This Plane" debuted today with a video by Robert Edridge-Waks featuring footage from the golden age of jet travel. The song "finds its inspiration in classic 'list songs' like Gershwin's 'They All Laughed' and Porter's 'I Get A Kick Out of You,' both chock full of little jokes," says Vilray. "Here two jetsetters contemplate the famous pioneers of flight and decide to one-up their aerial firsts with a bang."

Rhiannon Giddens performed in a concert celebrating Country Music, the new Ken Burns film, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in March, joining Dierks Bentley, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea, Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam, and others. The concert was broadcast on PBS yesterday and can be seen here. Giddens performs "Ruby Are You Mad at Your Man" with Ketch Secor, Willie Nelson's "Crazy," and in the all-star finale, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Country Music premieres on PBS this Sunday. Giddens receives the inaugural Legacy of Americana Award at the Americana Honors & Awards this Wednesday.

The Black Keys have released a live video version of "I Got Mine," from their 2008 album, Attack & Release. For the performance, they are joined by their touring band, Andrew Gabbard and Delicate Steve on guitar, and Zachary Gabbard on bass. The video, taped at a recent rehearsal in front of a small audience made up of members of the band's fan club, provides a behind-the-scenes look and a preview of their upcoming "Let's Rock" tour, which starts September 23. Robert Finley returned to America's Got Talent on NBC for the quarter finals last night to perform a brand-new song, "Starting to See." You can watch his performance, which once again wowed the audience and the judges, here.

The first recording of Donnacha Dennehy's The Hunger—performed by Alarm Will Sound led by Alan Pierson, soprano Katherine Manley, and sean nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird—is out this Friday. Alarm Will Sound has shared a short film in which the composer and performers tell the story behind the piece. "It's not just really about the Irish Famine. It's about any kind of unfolding catastrophe that's complicated by political ideas of 'the other,'" says Dennehy. "This happens throughout the world still to this day. We don't have to look very hard for parallels, I'm afraid." You can watch the short film here.
