    Pianist Jeremy Denk will join the faculty of The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM). Denk will lead a piano studio beginning in the 2019–20 academic year. "Jeremy Denk is the one of the definitive artists, teachers, and minds of his generation," says SFCM President David H. Stull. "His capacity to excel in multiple modes of artistic work is unparalleled and serves as an inspiration to all of us. I am honored to welcome him to SFCM and look forward to his tremendous work with our students." Nonesuch will release Denk's new album, c.1300–c.2000, in February.

    NPR's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2018 includes David Byrne's "I Dance Like This," from his new album, American Utopia ("Byrne's best solo release in years, and its touring incarnation might just have been the most original stage show of 2018," says Bob Boilen), Gabriel Kahane's "November," from his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers ("a poignant reflection on the ties that still bind us, politics be damned," says Nate Chinen), and Gerald Finley's performance of "Batter My Heart" from John Adams's opera Doctor Atomic ("haunting, tautly gorgeous aria," says Anastasia Tsioulcas).

    The English trio The Staves offer their contribution to the holiday-song canon with the just-released new song, "Home Alone, Too," in which the festive-jumper-festooned sisters dare to ask: "Are you watching Home Alone, too?"     Gabriel Kahane recently joined singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers in the Spotify Studios in New York City to put their own spin on The Cure's classic tune "Friday I'm in Love"—Kahane as co-producer and on all of the instruments, Bridgers on vocals. The song is available now as part of the Spotify Singles series and can be heard here.

    Aria Code, the new Rhiannon Giddens–hosted podcast series from The Metropolitan Opera and WQXR, launches today. The series, which takes a closer look at some of opera's legendary arias, opens with a look at Verdi's La Traviata and Violetta's Act I finale. She sat in with Thile and the band throughout the show and stepped out to perform the classic Steve Winwood–penned Blind Faith tune "Can't Find My Way Home" and the Bruce Hornsby / Chaka Khan tune "Love Me Still," both of which you can watch here.

    Laurie Anderson will take part in five events in San Francisco as SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director this week, November 28–December 2. The residency includes a listening party and conversation, programs called Songs for Women and Songs for Men, a drone-based sonic installation with Lou Reed's guitars, and scenes from a radio play.

    k.d. lang performs a concert celebrating her critically acclaimed 1992 album Ingénue from the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, TX, in k.d. lang – Landmarks Live in Concert: A Great Performances Special, premiering on Friday, December 14, on PBS. The special features an uninterrupted performance of the complete Ingénue album, Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," a previously unreleased song, and an interview with lang.     In conjunction with The Criterion Collection’s special-edition DVD and Blu-ray release of David Byrne’s 1986 film True Stories, Nonesuch and Todomundo Records release a comprehensive soundtrack, collected for the first time in one package and in film sequence: True Stories, A Film by David Byrne: The Complete Soundtrack is now available on vinyl LP, CD, and digital formats. "I always imagined that the music written for True Stories should be heard as it is in the film," says Byrne. "It makes the most sense this way.”
