"With the help of [Thomas] Bartlett as a bandmate and producer, several tracks on the new album go beyond tradition to include free-jazz influences, as well as a cover of Tim McGraw's 'My Old Friend.'" Amidon is currently touring Europe and begins a month-long tour of North America in September.

Today marks the release of mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile new album, Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1, which comprises three works written for solo violin and was produced by Edgar Meyer. Citing "Glenn Gould's sensational second recording of the Goldberg Variations" the Herald says "this album is worthy of a place on any shelf alongside that classic." Epoch Times gives the album four-and-a-half stars, explaining: "The playing goes from heavenly and sublime to technical and outstanding and never loses one’s concentration."

Timo Andres, whose new album, Home Stretch, was released yesterday, performed music from and discussed the new album on WNYC's Soundcheck. "Brian Eno and Mozart are two names one may not expect to be paired up," says Soundcheck. "Yet pianist and composer Timo Andres counts Eno and Mozart among his influences, and has found a way to couple them. On his new album, Home Stretch, Andres plays off of works by both of those composers, matching his reinventions of those pieces with a composition of his own. The result is a buoyant and fascinating record." Listen to the Soundcheck episode here.
