Punch Brothers' new album, The Phosphorescent Blues, produced by T Bone Burnett, has been nominated for three Grammy Awards this year: Best Americana Album for The Phosphorescent Blues and Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance for the album track "Julep." The track is among NPR Music's Favorite Songs of 2015, and the album is among NPR Listeners' 100 Favorite Albums. The band recently released an EP of songs from the sessions for The Phosphorescent Blues called The Wireless.

Emmylou Harris's new duo album with Rodney Crowell, The Traveling Kind, is up for two Grammy Awards: Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song for the title track, which they co-wrote with Cory Chisel. The song is included among NPR Music's Favorite Songs of 2015, and the album is included on the Los Angeles Times list of the 10 Best Albums of 2015, which calls it "a gorgeous reflection on life, hard-won wisdom and celebration from two longtime friends and musical collaborators."

Chris Thile, in addition to the Punch Brothers recordings, recently released a duo album with Edgar Meyer, Bass & Mandolin, and a solo album of Bach Sonatas and Partitas. He closes out 2015 with a pair of duo sets with label mate Brad Mehldau at Bowery Ballroom in New York on December 28.

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
