Devendra Banhart has released a cover of Ioanna Gika's song "Swan" on Banhart's YouTube and Gika's Bandcamp with all proceeds going to the Downtown Women's Center in Los Angeles. You can hear it here. "It is a pleasure to hear the song through Devendra’s distinct voice and vision," Gika says. "He is not only a prodigious artist, but one whom I have always appreciated for the way that he fosters community. Together, we have decided that we would like all proceeds from this cover to go to the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. Providing housing, healthcare, and assistance, the DWC is an important organization and one that is meaningful to us both."

Devendra Banhart filmed a Son & Lumière session for Télérama while on tour in Paris earlier this year. He performed what Télérama calls "two pieces full of feeling that flow like honey," the songs "October 12" and "Carolina," from his new album, Ma, at the famed Parisian photography studios Studio Harcourt. To coincide with the start of Devendra Banhart’s European tour next week, a remix of his “Love Song” by Helado Negro was released on Nonesuch Records today. Watch a video for the song here. The original version of “Love Song” appears on Banhart’s latest studio album, Ma. Helado Negro, aka Roberto Carlos Lange, says, “Music always makes me feel like you travel and hear, feel, and see where the sounds are from and take you. Devendra’s ‘Love Song’ does this. It haunts you with love.” He continues, “All of this album does this; it always makes you feel comforted and you’re never a stranger in the places he takes you. The remix I made is me as a witness to these sounds floating through this haunted feeling of love.”

Devendra Banhart will present Other Flowers, a multi-medium pop-up retail experience at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles this Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15, 2019, as part of the gallery’s third annual Holiday Market, featuring more than forty local makers, artists, performers, and nonprofit organizations. Banhart will offer visitors access to his work in art, song, and curation, including apparel, books, personalized vinyl, photography, and paintings. Other Flowers will also feature live performances, including a solo set from Banhart.

Devendra Banhart begins a twenty-five city North American tour—his first since 2017—featuring music from his new album, Ma, at The Majestic Ventura Theater in Ventura, California, tonight, and includes shows in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Mexico City, Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, and more. He tours Europe in early 2020. Banhart has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every US ticket sold (excluding a festival in Austin) will go to World Central Kitchen and every ticket bought in Canada, $1 will go to support Rainbow Railroad.

The line-up for the 2020 Big Ears Festival has been announced, and as usual, featured among the performers are several artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Devendra Banhart, Kronos Quartet, Terry Riley, and Caroline Shaw. Big Ears will be held at venues throughout downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, March 26–29, 2020. Weekend passes go on sale this Thursday.
