Punch Brothers begin a US tour in Ithaca, NY, on Thursday, with label mate Gabriel Kahane joining as special guest along the way for all but two festival dates. The tour, featuring music from its Grammy-winning album All Ashore, includes shows all along the East Coast and into the Midwest, culminating at the Savannah Music Festival on March 30. Punch Brothers also have a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in May with Nickel Creek and festival sets at Big Ears, Savannah, Spoleto, Telluride, and RockyGrass ahead. Gabriel Kahane is also at Big Ears and The Kennedy Center this month, and heads to Europe in April.

Gabriel Kahane will bring music from his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers, to Europe on tour this April. The tour begins with performances of the complete 8980: Book of Travelers work from which the album was drawn in Paris and Lyon, followed by concerts in London, Dublin, Glasgow, Genk, Amsterdam, Brussels, The Hague, Berlin, and Nantes. Before then, Kahane has shows in the US and tours as special guest of Punch Brothers.

NPR's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2018 includes David Byrne's "I Dance Like This," from his new album, American Utopia ("Byrne's best solo release in years, and its touring incarnation might just have been the most original stage show of 2018," says Bob Boilen), Gabriel Kahane's "November," from his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers ("a poignant reflection on the ties that still bind us, politics be damned," says Nate Chinen), and Gerald Finley's performance of "Batter My Heart" from John Adams's opera Doctor Atomic ("haunting, tautly gorgeous aria," says Anastasia Tsioulcas).

Gabriel Kahane recently joined singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers in the Spotify Studios in New York City to put their own spin on The Cure's classic tune "Friday I'm in Love"—Kahane as co-producer and on all of the instruments, Bridgers on vocals. The song is available now as part of the Spotify Singles series and can be heard here.

The line-up for the 2019 Big Ears Festival has been announced, including several Nonesuch artists: Rhiannon Giddens, Punch Brothers, Gabriel Kahane, and Mountain Man. Big Ears will be held at venues throughout downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, March 21–24, 2019. Weekend passes are on sale now.

Gabriel Kahane was on PBS NewsHour last night to discuss his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers. The album is a musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US he embarked upon the day after the 2016 US election and the people he met along the way. Gabriel Kahane was a guest on Live From Here with Chris Thile on Saturday. You can watch him perform songs from his new album, Book of Travelers—"November," "Baltimore," and "Little Love," for which he was joined by Thile—here. "I love him," says Thile; "now so do you." Gabriel Kahane has written original music for the Broadway premiere production of Kenneth Lonergan's play The Waverly Gallery. The production, starring Elaine May, Lucas Hedges, Joan Allen, and Michael Cera, and directed by Lila Neugebauer, begins in previews at the John Golden Theatre on Tuesday, September 25. Kahane is currently on tour performing music from his new album, Book of Travelers.
