Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet have shared two new tracks from their forthcoming album, Landfall: "The Water Rises" and "Our Street Is a Black River." Both can be downloaded now with pre-orders of the album, along with the previously released album track "We Learn to Speak Yet Another Language." Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet’s Landfall is due February 16, 2018. The piece, which was inspired by Anderson’s experience of Hurricane Sandy, is the first collaboration between the artists, who perform together on the recording. Landfall juxtaposes lush electronics and strings with Anderson’s powerful descriptions of loss, from water-logged pianos to disappearing animal species to Dutch karaoke bars. Laurie Anderson has been awarded the insignia of Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. French Cultural Counselor Bénédicte de Montlaur, presenting Anderson with the award in a ceremony at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in NYC in October, said: "For your outstanding contributions to the art world through performance, art-making, writing, musical composition, filmmaking, and invention, it is my honor to present you with the Order of Arts and Letters."

NPR Music has published a list titled Turning the Tables: The 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women, and among them are Emmylou Harris's Wrecking Ball, Laurie Anderson's Big Science, k.d. lang's Ingénue, and the Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Vocal Choir's Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares. "This list, of the greatest albums made by women between 1964 and the present, is an intervention, a remedy, a correction of the historical record and hopefully the start of a new conversation," says NPR.

Laurie Anderson's work will be among the long-term installations in the newly renovated Building 6 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA, opening this Sunday, May 28, 2017. Anderson was one of the museum's first artists-in-residence and has returned many times to develop and discuss works-in-progress. In Building 6, which nearly doubles the institution's current gallery footprint, she will create a multi-functional environment that will serve as a working studio and exhibition venue, highlighting both her creative process and over 10 years of archival work. Other artists represented in the space include Jenny Holzer, James Turrell, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Rauschenberg, and Gunnar Schonbeck.

Laurie Anderson has received the Award of Merit for Achievement in Performing Arts from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP). The 60th Annual APAP Awards Ceremony and Luncheon took place in NYC on Monday as part of APAP|NYC 2017, the association's 60th annual conference of performing arts professionals. "These recipients inspire and motivate our field to continue to grow and change," APAP President and CEO Mario Garcia Durham says of the honorees, "showing the strength and influence the arts can have in our communities, schools and cultural landscapes, and how important and influential the arts can be."

Laurie Anderson released her Nonesuch Records debut album 15 years ago today, August 21, 2001. It's "sparse, haunted, intimate," said Rolling Stone of the album. "Laurie Anderson is a singer-songwriter of crushing poignance." With Life on a String, she turned her view inward, creating one of the most personal recordings of her career; she played violin on a record for the first time since her debut album, Big Science. Laurie Anderson has been named to a jury of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, August 31–September 10, 2016. She will join the jury for the Venezia 73 competition presided over by director Sam Mendes. Also on the jury are actresses Gemma Arterton, Nina Hoss, Chiara Mastroianni, and Zhao Wei; directors Joshua Oppenheimer and Lorenzo Vigas; and writer Giancarlo De Cataldo. Anderson's film Heart of a Dog screened in competition in Venice in 2015; the film will be shown in Italian cinemas in September.

Laurie Anderson, in an interview with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark's Louisiana Channel, offers some sage advice to people both young and old. She suggests that applying a term as broad as "multimedia artist" to herself has helped keep her work from being pigeonholed and concludes: "Whatever makes you feel really free and really good, that's what to do.
