Laurie Anderson's new film, Heart of a Dog, which opens in cinemas in the UK and Ireland this Friday, was shown in select screenings last week: one at the Brighton Festival, of which she is guest director, and two in London, including one for a very special audience of dogs (and their human companions). Laurie Anderson spoke with BBC Radio 6 Music's Lauren Laverne, BBC Radio 4's Front Row, and BBC Radio 2's The Arts Show with Jonathan Ross about her new film, Heart of a Dog, and the Brighton Festival, of which she is Guest Director. She gave the UK premiere of her Music for Dogs concert at the festival this week and will perform there again next week. Heart of a Dog opens in the UK, Ireland, and Denmark, where she performs her piece Language of the Future this Saturday.

The 50th Brighton Festival, England's largest annual curated multi-arts festival, has begun and runs through May 29, with Laurie Anderson as Guest Director. Laurie Anderson will curate a day-long celebration of the work and legacy of Lou Reed as part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival in New York City. Titled The Bells: A Daylong Celebration of Lou Reed, after Reed's song "The Bells," the full day of free events will take place on Saturday, July 30, curated by Anderson with Reed's friend and longtime producer Hal Willner.

The 2016 Big Ears Festival gets under way in Knoxville, Tennessee, today, and featured among the performers are several artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Laurie Anderson and Philip Glass, Olivia Chaney, Sam Amidon, Nico Muhly, and Bombino. Big Ears will be held at venues throughout downtown Knoxville through Saturday.

Laurie Anderson was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. She discussed and shared a clip from her new film, Heart of a Dog, and gave a special live performance from her Concert for Dogs before a lucky group of canines. You can watch it here. Laurie Anderson's Heart of a Dog has won the International Cinephile Society Award for Best Documentary. The film, which is currently playing at theaters across the US, will receive its HBO premiere on April 25 and will be screened at the Big Ears Festival and the Brighton Festival this spring. It has been nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary, winners of which will be announced this Saturday, February 27.

Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) has announced the ten composers—five women and five men—who participating in Year Two of Kronos's Fifty for the Future project in the 2016/17 concert season, including Laurie Anderson and Philip Glass. They join the Year One artists, like label mate Rhiannon Giddens, in creating new works, which Kronos will then premiere around the world. Companion materials for each piece, including scores, will be made available online at no charge. In addition to Anderson and Glass, the Year Two composers include Raven Chacon, Guillermo Galindo, Aleksander Kościów, Nicole Lizée, Anna Meredith, Kala Ramnath, Karin Rehnqvist, and Trey Spruance.
