"Randy Newman is an Oscar-winning singer-songwriter whose music never fails to capture the spirit of the times," says CBS Sunday Morning host Jane Pauley in her introduction to Newman's appearance on the show. He and his wife Gretchen spoke with correspondent John Blackstone about life under quarantine and his new song, "Stay Away," a call to social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, which the show calls "a love song of sorts, perfect for a time of isolation." You can watch the piece here.

Randy Newman’s new song, “Stay Away,” a PSA about COVID-19 safety, is now available to purchase and stream. Proceeds will benefit the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, a city to which Newman has a deep, lifelong personal connection. "New Orleans is really suffering, and since African Americans are taking the brunt of the punishment, I thought something to help the Ninth Ward would be a good idea,” Newman said. “The Ellis Marsalis Center has a great reputation among musicians and people I know who live in the city. If the song makes a great deal of money, all bets are off.”

Rolling Stone has published its list of The 100 Best Albums of the 2010s, including two Nonesuch releases: The Black Keys' Brothers at No. 14, "one of their most emotive and cathartic records ... set to beautifully smudgy R&B, soul, and low-fi funk," and Randy Newman's Dark Matter at No. 36, "a gem, perhaps Newman’s most mordant assessment yet of his fellow man."

Randy Newman was on CBS Sunday Morning's Academy Awards episode, in a feature on his family and their "movie music dynasty," including his uncles Alfred, Emil, and Lionel Newman, cousins David and Thomas Newman, and Randy himself. "There are Newmans everywhere dotting Hollywood history from the beginning. It's one-of-a-kind. It's an extraordinary story," says film-music historian John Burlingame. "When you look at the individuals and you see how talented each one of them is in their own way, when you put it all together, it's a bit mind-boggling." Watch the feature and see what Randy had to say here.

The vinyl edition features what was then his first album of new material in nine years on a single 140-gram LP.
