In a new video, Rostam deconstructs his song "Gwan," a track on his debut album, Half-Light, that references the traditional tunes "Suo Gân" and "Simple Gifts." "I think there's something worthy about striving to make the most complex music that you can but still use melodies," he says; "and maybe using melodies that people know makes it more interesting, because then you can kind of track the evolution of stuff." Watch how he made the song in the video here. Rostam performs at The Growlers Six festival in LA this Saturday and starts a European tour at the Pitchfork Avant-Garde Festival in Paris November 1.

French singer and composer Camille, whose new album, OUÏ, was released in the United States on Nonesuch last week, was a guest on the public radio show The World. She spoke with host Marco Werman about the interplay between the words and music in her songs, the vibrations that emanate from them, the impact of the fourteenth-century monastery where she recorded the album, Yoko Ono, the current state of the world, and more. Chris Thile was a guest on WNYC's Leonard Lopate show today. He spoke with Lopate about his forthcoming album, Thanks for Listening, due December 8, shared some tracks from the album, and performed the album track "Falsetto" live. Thanks for Listening is a collection of new studio recordings of songs originally written as Songs of the Week on the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion, of which Thile is host. Rostam has announced his first North American tour, beginning in Atlanta on January 29, 2018. The tour, featuring music from Rostam's recently released debut album, Half-Light, continues through February, with stops in Nashville, DC, Chicago, Seattle, and more, culminating at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on February 24. Rostam was a guest on CBC's Q. He spoke with host Tom Power about the making of his debut album, Half-Light, and performed two songs from the album: a unique piano-and-vocal version of "Don't Let It Get to You" and the title track. "It's a beautiful song," says Power after the latter. "Isn't it gorgeous?" Hear for yourself here.

Robert Plant's new album, Carry Fire, is out now. As with his 2014 album, lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, it features his band The Sensational Space Shifters. They are also joined here by special guests, including Chrissie Hynde. NPR calls the album "transfixing ... rivetingly intimate." The New York Times calls it "a swirling mix of deep blues, mountain music, North African rhythms and Zeppelin-heavy weight." The AP says: "There are few undisputed rock stars this accomplished still taking musical risks. Plant’s songwriting remains a class above ... 'Out here the fire's still burning / So long into my night,' he sings. Long may it burn."

The award-winning French singer and composer Camille's fifth studio album, OUÏ, is out now in the US on Nonesuch. Recorded over a year in La Chartreuse, a 14th-century monastery-turned-artist's residence in Avignon, OUÏ features folk music, hymns, ballads, pop, lullabies, and a cappella, with Camille on all vocal parts and all but one song in French. "A Parisian pop genius," says Pitchfork. "OUÏ is rich with brilliant, funny ideas about conception, nature, and identity, with plenty of pure pleasure hits for non-Francophones." Camille performs an intimate album-release show at (Le) Poisson Rouge in NYC on Monday, October 16.

Congratulations to singer, instrumentalist, and songwriter Rhiannon Giddens, who has been named a MacArthur Fellow. Giddens is among the twenty-four new MacArthur Fellow for 2017, selected by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The annual fellowship, often referred to as the "Genius" grant, awards individuals who, in the Foundation's words, "have shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction." Robert Plant and his band the Sensational Space Shifters were on the Later… With Jools Holland live show on BBC Two. They performed two songs from the new album Carry Fire, out this Friday: "Bones of Saints" and "New World…" You can watch them perform both here, and tune in to BBC Two again this Friday for the full, one-hour episode of Later for more. The show calls it "a set of songs that combines some haunting tribal rhythms with Plant's customary inventive flair and sense of urgency." Plant and the band performed from Carry Fire on BBC Radio 6 Music live last Friday; he spoke with Lauren Laverne about the new album and more.

Fleet Foxes have announced a special 10" EP available exclusively at independent record stores starting on Record Store Day's Black Friday, November 24, 2017. The EP features four Crack-Up songs, selected from a WFUV session recorded at the historic Electric Lady Studio in NYC in June: Side A is "Cassius, -" and "- Naiads, Cassadies," and Side B is "Mearcstapa" and "On Another Ocean (January / June)." Fleet Foxes have also released a Classic Album Sunday Q&A which premiered via Record Store Day and can be seen below.
