Pat Metheny Unity Group, fresh off a months-long European spring tour, kicks off a US summer tour featuring music from its debut album, Kin (←→). The tour begins at the Mondavi Center in Davis, CA, Tuesday, followed by stops throughout the state and region before heading to the Midwest and East Coast. The band is joined for most of the dates by special guest Bruce Hornsby with Sonny Emory for the Campfire Tour 2014. The Unity Group heads to Asia this fall.

"With songs that run the gamut from heartbreaking to satirical and a host of unforgettable film scores," says the show, "Randy Newman has used his many talents to create musical masterpieces widely recognized by generations of audiences." The soundtrack spans the 12 years over which the groundbreaking film was shot, with songs ranging from the year 2000 to 2013, plus the Paul McCartney and Wings classic “Band on the Run” and the debut of "Summer Noon," a new song written by Jeff Tweedy and performed by his father/son duo, Tweedy. The tour features songs from Nickel Creek's new album, A Dotted Line, and favorites from throughout the band's career. Each stamp features a photo of lang taken by Jeri Heiden, whose art direction can be seen on lang's many iconic album designs. The stamp is one of five in the Post's Country Legends stamp series and part of Canada Post’s larger 2014 stamp program, which aims to demonstrate Canada's diverse combination of achievement, progress, and culture.

The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. Previews begin 30 September; the official Opening Night is 14 October. Performances are scheduled to run through 8 January, 2015. "I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well."
