    Pat Metheny Unity Group, fresh off a months-long European spring tour, kicks off a US summer tour featuring music from its debut album, Kin (←→). The tour begins at the Mondavi Center in Davis, CA, Tuesday, followed by stops throughout the state and region before heading to the Midwest and East Coast. The band is joined for most of the dates by special guest Bruce Hornsby with Sonny Emory for the Campfire Tour 2014. The Unity Group heads to Asia this fall.

    Randy Newman's debut performance on Austin City Limits will receive an encore broadcast when the show airs the 2011 episode on PBS this weekend. "With songs that run the gamut from heartbreaking to satirical and a host of unforgettable film scores," says the show, "Randy Newman has used his many talents to create musical masterpieces widely recognized by generations of audiences." The show first aired in November 2011, the same week his latest album, Live in London, was released on Nonesuch Records.     In conjunction with Nonesuch Records at BAM, the Brooklyn Academy of Music's series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Nonesuch Records, BAMcinématek presents Nonesuch Records on Film, a salute to the label’s rich catalogue of movie soundtracks with a series featuring some of the most memorable film scores of the last 50 years from Leonard Rosenman, Alex North, Toru Takemitsu, Georges Delerue, and more. Special guest appearances include Philip Glass with a screening of Paul Schrader’s Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and John Adams with Luca Guadagnino’s I Am Love.

    The soundtrack to Richard Linklater's Boyhood is out this week on Nonesuch Records. The soundtrack spans the 12 years over which the groundbreaking film was shot, with songs ranging from the year 2000 to 2013, plus the Paul McCartney and Wings classic “Band on the Run” and the debut of "Summer Noon," a new song written by Jeff Tweedy and performed by his father/son duo, Tweedy. The video for the song, animated by Allison House, premiered this week. You can watch it here.

    Today marks the release of the soundtrack to Richard Linklater's Boyhood; the movie opens this Friday, July 11, in the UK, NYC, and LA before going wider across the US next week. Shot over 12 years with the same cast, Boyhood is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child who literally grows up on screen before the viewers’ eyes. The New York Times calls it "one of the most extraordinary movies of 2014, or for that matter the 21st century so far." The film’s soundtrack spans the story’s 12 years, with songs ranging from the year 2000 (Coldplay’s “Yellow”) to 2013 (Yo La Tengo’s “I’ll Be Around”), plus the Paul McCartney and Wings classic “Band on the Run” and the debut of a new song written by Jeff Tweedy.

    John Adams's new album featuring City Noir and his Saxophone Concerto performed by the St. Louis Symphony led by Music Director David Robertson with saxophonist Timothy McAllister, earns a perfect five stars from the BBC Music Magazine, for both performance and recording. "David Robertson and his St Louis orchestra do a sleek and beautifully layered job," says the magazine. New Music Box says: "These are vital, engaging performances by all involved."

    Nickel Creek—Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins—kicks off its two-month, US summer tour at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday, followed by additional stops in the state this week and at the Taste of Chicago on Friday, when the group shares a bill with Emmylou Harris. The tour features songs from Nickel Creek's new album, A Dotted Line, and favorites from throughout the band's career. The Associated Press says: "All the years collaborating with other musicians or performing on their own helped to create a stronger, more focused sound."

    The original cast recording of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s Here Lies Love is “thought-provoking pop-laden fun,” says Broadway World.     Natalie Merchant kicked off her US tour over the July 4 holiday weekend. In advance of the tour start last week, she discussed the tour, her new ablum, and much more on public radio's The Diane Rehm Show, which calls the new album "the fullest expression of her songwriting voice to date," the CBC's Q with Jian Ghomeshi, and FUV Live from New York public radio station 90.7 WFUV.

    Singer-songwriter k.d. lang is featured on a new stamp to be released by the Canada Post later this month. Each stamp features a photo of lang taken by Jeri Heiden, whose art direction can be seen on lang's many iconic album designs. The stamp is one of five in the Post's Country Legends stamp series and part of Canada Post’s larger 2014 stamp program, which aims to demonstrate Canada's diverse combination of achievement, progress, and culture.

    Natalie Merchant begins a three-week US tour in support of her new, self-titled album at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY, this Thursday, followed by stops along the East Coast and in the Midwest. "The collective feel of the music on the album still leaves room for Merchant’s trademark intimacy and honesty: no small feat," writes Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly in advance of Thursday's show. "Expect similar wire-walking brilliance when Merchant takes the show on the road." Merchant kicks off the tour as a guest on public radio's The Diane Rehm Show Wednesday and CBC's Q with Jian Ghomeshi Thursday.

    David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love, currently playing at NYC's Public Theater, will open in London this autumn. The National Theatre is producing the musical, which will be the first production in its Dorfman Theatre. Previews begin 30 September; the official Opening Night is 14 October. Performances are scheduled to run through 8 January, 2015. "I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews," says David Byrne. "Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm [Cook (Fatboy Slim)] will be there sometimes, as well."
