Congratulations to Joshua Redman and Tigran Hamasyan, who have been nominated for the Deutscher Jazzpreis 2021 in their respective categories: Wind Instruments International for Redman and Piano/Keyboards for Hamasyan. The Jazzpreis is a new jazz award launched by the German government's Commissioner for Culture and Media. Winners will be announce in a livestreamed awards ceremony on June 3.

The Jazz Journalists Association has announced the 2021 JJA Jazz Awards nominations, including three for Rob Mazurek for the new Exploding Star Orchestra album, Dimensional Stardust; all four members of the RoundAgain quartet, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and Brian Blade; performers on Pat Metheny's album From This Place, including Metheny, Linda May Han Oh, and Grégoire Maret; Jeff Parker for Suite for Max Brown; and Cécile McLorin Salvant, whose Nonesuch debut album is forthcoming.

NPR Music and Jazz Night in America debuted an hour-long set from shows Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and Brian Blade played at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY, just before recording their new album, RoundAgain, last September. The members of the original Joshua Redman Quartet—Redman (saxophone), Brad Mehldau (piano), Christian McBride (bass), and Brian Blade (drums)—reunite with RoundAgain, the group’s first recording since 1994’s MoodSwing, out now. "A flawless effort," exclaims NPR. "Each one of them is at the very top of his game now." On July 22, NPR Music and Jazz Night In America will host a live chat and video stream of a rare performance by Redman, Mehldau, McBride, and Blade from last fall; the musicians will join Nate Chinen to discuss the gig and RoundAgain.

The members of the original Joshua Redman Quartet—Redman (saxophone), Brad Mehldau (piano), Christian McBride (bass), and Brian Blade (drums)—have released a new song, "Father," from their upcoming album, RoundAgain, due July 10. Joshua Redman will join San Francisco Conservatory of Music as Artistic Director of Roots, Jazz, and American Music. The RJAM program is a collaboration between SFCM and SFJAZZ. “When we launched RJAM three years ago, we set out to create an innovative program that would prepare the next generation of jazz musicians for multifaceted, entrepreneurial careers,” said SFCM President David Stull. “Building the program with our faculty and watching our first RJAM students flourish has been tremendously rewarding. Now with Joshua Redman at the helm, our students have direct access to some of the greatest minds—and players—in jazz.” Redman will share his expertise with students in one-on-one sessions, studio classes, ensembles, and lectures.

The members of the original Joshua Redman Quartet—Redman (saxophone), Brad Mehldau (piano), Christian McBride (bass), and Brian Blade (drums)—reunite with the July 10, 2020, release of RoundAgain, the group’s first recording since 1994’s MoodSwing. The album features seven newly composed songs: three from Redman, two from Mehldau, and one each from McBride and Blade. A live version of Redman’s “Right Back Round Again” may be seen here, in a video directed by Matthew Beighley; the album version is available now. The band tours internationally this summer and fall.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 2020–21 season, and among the artists performing at Walt Disney Concert Hall are John Adams, Joshua Redman, and Brad Mehldau. The season also brings performances of several works by Adams, including his operas Nixon in China and Girls of the Golden West, and by Louis Andriessen (De Staat), Steve Reich, Timo Andres, and Nico Muhly.
