Songlines has announced its list of the Best Albums of 2014, and featured in that top ten are three albums familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Robert Plant's label debut album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar; Kronos Quartet's A Thousand Thoughts, which led Songlines to call the group "one of the musical marvels of our ages"; and Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté's Toumani & Sidiki, about which the magazine says: "Every note in this rich tapestry of strings is exquisitely calibrated in the pursuit of perfection." 

Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters are on BBC Two's Later ... with Jools Holland tonight, performing "Little Maggie" and "Turn It Up" from the new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar. Tune in to BBC Two again this Friday night for the full, one-hour episode of Later to see them perform "Little Maggie" plus "House of Love" and "Whole Lotta Love." They kick off a sold-out tour of the UK and Ireland on 9 November.

Robert Plant was the guest on The Colbert Report last night. He joined his host for a conversation about his new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, his endless musical quest, and more. Plant and his band, The Sensational Space Shifters, then gave an on-air performance of the new album's first single, "Rainbow," plus a web-exclusive take on "Little Maggie." Following their recent tour stop in LA, the LA Times concludes: "The singer and his Shape Shifters succeeded in fusing an untouchable legacy with a passion for experimentation."

Some 800 lucky fans will have the chance to see Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters in one of their most intimate gigs to date. This Thursday, October 9, 2014, they will play a late-night set at the Brooklyn Bowl. Heading straight to the venue after an appearance on The Colbert Report that night, they will take the stage just after midnight. The special event will feature a DJ set from Questlove to start off the night. Tickets will go on sale this Tuesday, October 7, at 3pm ET.

Robert Plant and his band The Sensational Space Shifters gave the culminating concert of the Nonesuch Records at BAM series celebrating the label's 50th anniversary, performing songs from his new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, and several Led Zeppelin favorites. "Robert Plant was just brilliant Sunday night in Brooklyn," says NPR's Bob Boilen, who hosted NPR's live video stream of the event. "Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters played a stunning set of music that did what Robert Plant does best: mixing up American blues, British rock, North African rhythms and even some electronica with that voice, still filled with passion after all these years." Robert Plant was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. He joined his host for a chat and a performance of the classic doo-wop tune "Duke of Earl." Plant then joined his band The Sensational Space Shifters for a performance of "Rainbow" and "Turn It Up" (a web exclusive), off the new album lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar. Plant's North American fall tour launch in Port Chester, NY, was a "shrewdly rollicking concert," says the New York Times, mixing songs from the new album and Led Zeppelin favorites. The tour continues with performances at BAM tonight and Sunday for Nonesuch Records at BAM; watch a live stream of Sunday's show via NPR Music.

Robert Plant, who kicks off a North American tour Thursday and performs on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night, spoke with CBS This Morning earlier this week. "He is known as the 'Golden God,'" says CBS. "And he's not showing signs of stopping ... On his tenth solo album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, Plant weaves world music with blues, bluegrass, and a lifetime of adventure." Robert Plant's new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, is out now. The album's release was featured in the New York Times list of 100 "events that have us especially excited" this season. The LA Times says he's created "a compellingly eclectic landscape." The Boston Globe calls it "a kaleidoscope that shows he still has much to say." American Songwriter says he "remains as creative, curious and truly artistic as ever, perhaps more so. And this stunning entry into his already impressive catalog shows he refuses to rest on his laurels." The Christian Science Monitor finds that "these are golden days" for Plant. The album earns four stars from the Times, Independent, Financial Times, and Guardian. The Irish Herald says this "brilliant" album is "a cause for celebration" and among the "most entertaining and sonically thrilling collections of the year."

The Brooklyn Academy of Music's wide-ranging series of concerts and events Nonesuch Records at BAM: Celebrating a Label Without Labels, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Nonesuch Records, kicks off Tuesday night with the first of three consecutive nights of concerts from Philip Glass and Steve Reich plus a separate solo set from Brad Mehldau and continues through September 28. The New York Times says the series "reflects the broad curiosity and high standard of a label that has had notable successes ... with no guiding criteria other than instinct and taste." In conjunction with these events, BAMcinématek presents Nonesuch Records on Film, a salute to the label’s rich catalogue of movie soundtracks.

Robert Plant's new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, is due out next week. But you don't need to wait till then to hear it. Fans worldwide can hear the new music ahead of its release, and stream the entire album in full.
