Rhiannon Giddens has made a video performing Edith Piaf's beloved song "La Vie en Rose." "This is for Paris, and Beirut, and Kenya, and Charleston, and so many others; for countless innocent people devastated by terrorism—which is just a word for organized hatred and inhumanity," says Giddens. "We have to keep seeing the world in shades of rose—we have to keep hoping for peace and working for change and believing that with our art, our love, our knowledge, and most of all, our empathy and understanding for our fellow human beings, we can make a difference." Lianne La Havas returned home to London last week, following a month-long North American tour, to attend the MOBO Awards, where she was nominated for Best Album and Best Female Act and performed "Unstoppable," off her new album, Blood. You can watch it here. La Havas is touring Europe for the next month and will play an Albert Sessions show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 14.

Laurie Anderson's new film, Heart of a Dog, which is currently showing at select theaters in NY and LA, was shown at the New York Film Festival last month. Following the screening, Anderson sat down with New York Film Festival director Kent Jones for a brief discussion of the film. Lianne La Havas, who recently closed out a month-long North American tour with a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, has just unveiled the official music video for the song she played for the show: "Green & Gold," from her new album, Blood. Watch the video here. La Havas is back in the UK, where she is up for two of the major awards at this week’s MOBO Awards. It was just announced that she will play an Albert Sessions show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 14.

Natalie Merchant was a guest on the Today show this morning, performing "Jealousy" and "Wonder" from her forthcoming album, Paradise Is There: The New Tigerlily Recordings. The album, due out next Friday, November 6, features new recordings of the beloved songs of her multi-platinum solo debut album, Tigerlily, as they have evolved over two decades of live performance. The documentary film that accompanies the album is being screened at theaters across the US, including Upstate Films in Rhinebeck, NY, where Merchant answers questions tonight.

Lianne La Havas was the guest on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic earlier this week. She spoke with host Jason Bentley and performed six songs from her new album, Blood, and one from her debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough?. As announced last week, Nonesuch Records will release Junun, an album from composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur, guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, a group of Indian qawwali musicians, in November. Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson documented the recording sessions inside the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India. "Suddenly," The New Yorker writes in an article on Junun, "a person knows what it feels like to occupy a moment completely."

Rhiannon Giddens has unveiled the official music video for "Black Is the Color," off her debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn. The video, directed by Peter Zavadil, premiered as an NPR Music First Watch. "We all had such a great time filming this video," says Giddens, "and were so honored to set our story—an old love story rediscovered—on the campus of Fisk University, a Nashville HBCU that dates back to 1866. The Fisk Jubilee Singers were among the first African-American performance groups to tour America and Europe, and they single-handedly kept their school from closing its doors with the money they raised with their singing." Lianne La Havas, who is touring North America, stopped by the NPR studios to perform a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music, including two songs from Blood, her new album—"What You Don't Do" and "Unstoppable"—as well as the song "Forget" from her debut album. "Her music works for any activity, any emotion," says NPR's Suraya Mohamed. "La Havas is soulful yet playful, raw and vulnerable in a commanding kind of way, and her new second album, Blood, is as amazing as the first ... If you're like me, you will never get enough." This summer, Rhiannon Giddens was joined by Joe Henry on guitar, Tony Garnier on bass, Diego Schissi on piano, and Gustaf Llunggren on pedal steel on stage at the Aarhus Festival in Denmark. They performed "She's Got You," which Giddens also performs on her solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn. "I love this version for the dynamics," she says, "and the way we are all listening to each other with every fiber of our being." Giddens is currently touring the US.
