As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, Mary Halvorson inaugurates the Nonesuch Selects video series, in which artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorite albums from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Halvorson kicks things off with music by Laurie Anderson, Tyondai Braxton, Jeff Parker, Caroline Shaw & Attacca Quartet, and Kronos Quartet.

Guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson performs her song “Night Shift” live with a newly formed sextet of master improvisers—Patricia Brennan on vibraphone, Nick Dunston on bass, Tomas Fujiwara on drums, Jacob Garchik on trombone, and Adam O’Farrill on trumpet—at Roulette in Brooklyn on September 8, 2021. The performance took place just three days before the musicians went to Sear Sound in Manhattan to record the piece for Amaryllis, one of Halvorson’s two Nonesuch debut albums, along with Belladonna.

Mary Halvorson's "Night Shift" from Amaryllis, one of her twin Nonesuch debut albums, along with Belladonna. The two suites, which Halvorson describes as "modular and interlocking," showcase her many musical influences from jazz, experimental, new music, and beyond, as well as her first time writing for a string quartet.
