Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder perform "Cornbread, Peas, Black Molasses" from their 2022 album, GET ON BOARD: THE SONGS OF SONNY TERRY & BROWNIE MCGHEE. Cooder and Mahal, longtime friends and collaborators, reunite nearly sixty years after they first played together with an album of music from two Piedmont blues masters who have inspired them all their lives. With Mahal on vocals, harmonica, guitar, and piano and Cooder on vocals, guitar, mandolin, and banjo—joined by Joachim Cooder on drums and bass—the duo recorded eleven songs drawn from recordings and live performances by Terry and McGhee, who they both first heard as teenagers in California. A remastered, expanded edition of the soul-stirring 2005 benefit album Our New Orleans is available on vinyl from Nonesuch Records. The expanded edition includes five previously unreleased tracks as well as the original performances by Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas, Wild Magnolias, Buckwheat Zydeco, Randy Newman, and others. The album has thus far raised $1.5 million Habitat for Humanity’s post-Katrina rebuilding effort. Take a look inside the two-LP vinyl edition of Ry Cooder’s critically acclaimed album Chávez Ravine, first released on Nonesuch Records in 2005. The vinyl edition was remastered by Martin Pradler from the original high-resolution source files and pressed on 140-gram vinyl at Record Industry in the Netherlands. The set comes in a gatefold tip-on jacket made at Stoughton Printing with a twenty-page, full-color booklet.
