Lianne La Havas was the musical guest on CBS This Morning: Saturday this past weekend. She performed three songs from her recently released album Blood: "Green and Gold," "Unstoppable," and "What You Don't Do." CBS This Morning host Anthony Mason called her "remarkable." The Arcs made their television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Friday, joined by Mariachi Flor de Toloache to perform "Outta My Mind," the first single off Yours, Dreamily, their debut album. "With the music video's psychedelic light show emanating in the background," says Rolling Stone, "the Arcs delivered a riveting take on the track, including a killer Auerbach guitar solo." Watch it here. The band, who played a sold-out show at NYC's Bowery Ballroom Saturday night streamed live on Yahoo, tours Europe in November and North America in December.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the debut of Ken Burns's acclaimed documentary The Civil War, PBS will rebroadcast the series over five consecutive nights starting Labor Day Monday, September 7. This is the first presentation of a newly restored, high-definition version of the landmark documentary. This is also the first time the film will be seen with the same fidelity and framing as the negative that Burns and his co-cinematographers Allen Moore and Buddy Squires shot more than 25 years ago. The film's soundtrack, released on Nonesuch Records in 1990, won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album.

Rhiannon Giddens, Emmylou Harris, and Rodney Crowell 's very special performance in The Gospel Tradition: In Performance at the White House, from April, receives its TV broadcast premiere on PBS stations across the US this Friday, June 26, at 9 PM ET. They join President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and an esteemed group of performers, including Aretha Franklin, Darlene Love, and Lyle Lovett, to pay tribute to the fundamental role gospel music has played in the American musical tradition. Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, whose new duets album, The Traveling Kind, is due out May 12, stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman as musical guests on the show last night. They sang a special rendition of the gospel tune "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" in tribute to Letterman, whose final episode as host will air later this month, joined by Steve Martin on banjo, Amos Lee on guitar and vocals, and Mark O'Connor on fiddle. Rhiannon Giddens was the musical guest on CBS This Morning: Saturday, performing two songs from her recently released debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn—"Black Is the Color" and "She's Got You"—as well as "Spanish Mary," from the New Basement Tapes album Lost on the River. You can watch all three performances here. "With a voice so powerful it could scorch the rafters, Rhiannon Giddens has the pipes of a genuine diva. But her attitude is humble and her personality is down to earth," writes the Chicago Tribune of a recent tour stop. "With equal helpings of confidence and respect, she nimbly saluted her idols while giving their iconic work a fresh spin."

Rhiannon Giddens was the subject of a feature on PBS NewsHour, looking at her solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn. "Her debut celebrates women who influenced her, some famous like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, others, like Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Libba Cotten, much less so," says NewsHour's Jeffrey Brown. The Big Ears Festival 2015, which took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, late last month, was the subject of a feature profile on PBS NewsHour on Friday. The piece looks at how the festival "breaks barriers for open-minded music lovers," not least from performers like this year's artists in residence, Kronos Quartet, and their fellow Nonesuch artists to perform at Big Ears, Rhiannon Giddens, Laurie Anderson, Sam Amidon, and Tyondai Braxton. Kronos's David Harrington and Giddens talk with NewsHour about this idea and how it manifest itself in their own music. You can watch the piece here.

Punch Brothers performed two songs from their new album, The Phosphorescent Blues, on CBS This Morning: Saturday: "Boll Weevil" and "Magnet." You can watch both songs here. "Formed in 2006, each of the five musicians were well-known for their musical skills," says the show, "but together, they have become a force beloved by critics and audiences worldwide."

Singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara, who was born of Malian parents in the Ivory Coast, spoke with PBS NewsHour about the struggle to preserve Mali's rich musical heritage under the shadow of ongoing violence there. "If we want the best for Africa, the only—the first thing to do is to know how to bring peace," says Diawara. "Without peace, nothing, we cannot start any kind of government. Nothing, nothing’s possible." You can watch the piece here.

Emmylou Harris joins Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, and more for a special episode of Austin City Limits (ACL) featuring performances from the inaugural Austin City Limits Hall of Fame presentation, which took place in April. The hour-long special, hosted by actor Matthew McConaughey, debuts on PBS this weekend. Harris and ACL Hall of Fame inductee Nelson perform "Crazy," and Lovett joins them both for a trio take on "Pancho & Lefty" and "On the Road Again." Harris's groundbreaking album Wrecking Ball was the featured classic album on BBC Radio 2's Johnnie Walker’s Long Players program earlier this week.
