Natalie Merchant sits down for an in-depth conversation about her 2014 self-titled album and the "intimate portraits" she creates in its songs. "I remember reading that Virginia Woolf thought that Mrs. Dalloway was the first novel that she ever wrote after she had found her voice," she says in the interview. "And she was 43. You can't find your voice until you've lived for a long time."
